This American foursquare dates back to 1847 and still maintains her beautiful character!
Upon opening the front door you will be greeted with a period correct staircase and foyer, many more surprises await as we take a tour of this home. To the right we will enter the living room with tall ceilings, beaming original hardwood floors, views of both the river and the locally famous Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, a FireTV with a Ruku so you can log into your subscriptions.
Next comes the historic room divider wooden columns that will lead you into the dinning room with seating for 6. A bay window offers magnificent views of the river and outdoor landscaping. Saloon doors from the dining room will lead you to an addition off the back of the home where the laundry and half bath share a space.
To the left of the dinning room opens up to the updated newly remodeled kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher and farmhouse sink. Original structural brick lines the wall on the north side of the kitchen......history before your eyes! The kitchen leads back to the foyer so we may now explore the upstairs wonders of this marvelous estate.
Climbing the original wood staircase will bring you to a shared hallway to access all three bedrooms and the upstairs bathroom. Located in this hallway is a quilt rack with extra blankets for those chilly nights.
Straight up from the stairs we come to the first bedroom, the smaller bedroom, with views of Downtown Cape Girardeau. This bedroom has a doorway to join to the next bedroom. The second bedroom boast great views with the ability to see all three wonders from the home, Downtown, the river and the bridge. This bedroom also joins back to the hallway.
Last we have the master bedroom located directly above the living room. This bedroom includes a queen sized, four post bed and large armoire. Not only do you get the best views of the river and the bridge from this room but you also have beautiful period correct wallpaper with extra attention to detail. All bedrooms include queen sized beds, dressers, closets with hangers, ceiling fans with remotes, and box fans! The final room upstairs is the full bathroom which includes original subway tile!
Next we will adventure to the outside of the estate to take in all of its historic glory and charm. The front porch includes a swing for those wishing to rid themselves of the hustle and bustle of the day and slow time down.
Marvel at the gorgeous landscaped yard overlooking the river while watching the barges transport their goods up and down the river just like they did 100 years ago.
If you prefer to have a bit more privacy you can utilize the back porch which is covered and has a ceiling fan to keep cool during those warmer days. Enjoy solitude by using the rocking chairs and admiring the backyard beauty.
A pergola is located in the backyard with grape vines growing over it for shade and a hammock to rock your worries away.
An interesting fact is that this house had a business license to produce bricks and it is believed that the walk path bricks from the house to the garage was actually produced at this location!
