Jungle Haven: Oceanfront Eco Villa on Fruit Farm
Kūaloli is for those looking to step off the beaten path and reconnect with the wild and raw elements of the Big Island jungle. Far from the resort side of the island, our tranquil eco-retreat sits along the untouched coastline—off-grid, ocean-facing, and immersed in vibrant nature. This is where spacious comfort meets raw beauty, offering an experience that’s grounded, peaceful, and deeply alive.
Our 3,800 sq. ft. glass villa is an architectural sanctuary with floor-to-ceiling windows, inviting in natural light by day and starlit skies by night. The open-concept design blends indoor and outdoor living, with views of lush, landscaped grounds from every room.
We are equipped with Wi-Fi. However, due to our remote location, we recommend downloading any important documents, music, or entertainment ahead of time for a smoother experience.
Cook with ease in the chef’s kitchen, featuring modern appliances and a 10-person dining table handcrafted from rainbow eucalyptus. Upstairs, two large bedrooms (one king, one queen) share a serene loft space with a deep soaking tub and half bath. Downstairs, two lounge areas offer ample space to relax, plus three daybeds (two singles, one full), a stone-inlaid full bathroom, and an invigorating outdoor shower.
The covered lanai opens to panoramic views of the property. Relax in the hammock, stretch on yoga mats, or enjoy a game of ping-pong in the garage.
At Kūaloli, sustainability is woven into every detail. The property runs on solar power and captures pristine rainwater for drinking, cooking, and bathing. Please help us protect the land by bringing a reusable water bottle and embracing low-impact living.
Immerse yourself in nature’s soundtrack—from the songs of native birds and the rhythmic ocean to the nightly chorus of coqui frogs. Monarch butterflies float through the air, wild fruits grow in abundance (banana, coconut, papaya, lilikoi, ulu, and more), and guided tours of the land are available upon request.
Nearby, enjoy black sand beaches, natural hot springs, Uncle Robert’s night market with live Hawaiian music, and a vibrant Saturday farmers market full of local food and crafts. Volcano National Park and Hilo are both an easy scenic drive away. After stewarding this land for some years I’ve come to learn that our property is best suited for those who are comfortable, adaptable and looking to be back in touch with nature.

Über den Gastgeber
Zu Gast bei Robin Duryea
Robin is a longtime yoga and meditation teacher originally from San Francisco, now rooted on the Big Island of Hawai‘i. Deeply attuned to the healing power of nature, she lives on and stewards this land so its mana—its spiritual energy, beauty, and abundance—can be shared with others. In Hawaiian, the word malama means to care for, to tend, and to protect. Being here is not just a chance to travel or unwind—it’s an invitation to remember what really matters: caring for the land, for one another, and for ourselves. When not hosting travelers, Robin offers intimate retreats for those seeking space to reflect, reset, and reconnect. May your time at Kūaloli be peaceful, nourishing, and inspiring.
Darum fiel die Entscheidung auf diese Unterkunft
Kūaloli means “metamorphosis” in Hawaiian—a fitting name for this land, where transformation seems to come naturally. Located on the remote, untamed coast of the Big Island, this eco-retreat runs entirely off-grid, blending simplicity with comfort. What drew me to this area is the land’s potency—there’s something deeply alive here that guests feel the moment they arrive. It’s a place to re-wild yourself, to reconnect with the raw, healing elements of nature that are unique to this corner of Hawai‘i. Here, you’ll experience true Hawaiian beauty, quiet, and Aloha.
Das macht diese Unterkunft einzigartig
Kūaloli stands out as a rare combination of raw nature and refined comfort. Unlike typical vacation homes or resorts, this is a living, breathing eco-retreat—a private, off-grid estate nestled where the jungle meets the ocean. The glass architecture invites the outside in, putting you in direct contact with the rhythms of nature while still offering beauty and ease.
Located near Kīlauea, one of the most active volcanoes in the world, the land itself carries a powerful energy of transformation. Guests often speak of deep rest, clarity, and a renewed sense of connection that emerges during their stay.
Though remote, Kūaloli is part of a small, vibrant community on the east side of the Big Island. Live Hawaiian music plays every Wednesday night at Uncle Robert’s nearby market. Kalani offers yoga classes, bodywork, and café fare, while Sundari Spa provides luxurious treatments just down the road. A few minutes away lies Kehena Beach—our local black sand gem, lovingly nicknamed Dolphin Cove for its frequent sightings.
Monarch butterflies, fruit trees, birdsong, and ocean breezes surround you. Powered by solar and nourished by rainwater, this land supports sustainable living. Kūaloli isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a place to transform.
