Laundry - A washer and dryer is available for your use in a shared basement space right outside your locked, private unit. Laundry Detergent provided
The unit is approximately 700 square feet and located within the basement of our beachfront home. Guests enter a foyer through the secured front door that will have a key pad and then descend 12 steps down to the private, locked entry door to the apartment in the basement. We live upstairs full time. Our home is in a quiet residential neighborhood right on a dead end section of Lake Shore Drive in Miller Beach.
Noise - Extra soundproofing material was installed in the ceilings and the walls. We are quiet, you probably won't hear us. The apartment has been well soundproofed, but it is still a shared home.
Temperature - There is no separate thermostat in the rental unit, it is shared with the upstairs and the space is air conditioned and heated. A dehumidifier runs in a utility room (separate from your living space) with a setting of 45% humidity. We like to keep the temperature on the cool side, with daytime thermostat settings set at 68-72 degrees most of the time and sleeping temps set from 64-66 degrees. Downstairs, you will have control over the electric fireplace that has a built in heater and a space heater which both can give off heat, if needed. The primary bathroom has a heated floor that monitors air temperature and the main bathroom also has a heater in the exhaust fan that is on a separate switch that can be turned on. There are also two fans to use and guests can adjust the openings of the HVAC registers in living room, dining room and bedroom.
No parties, and NO SMOKING or vaping of anything inside or outside.
From the backyard, use the private path to directly access our secluded Lake Michigan beach! The backyard is equipped with a HEATED in ground pool, Breeo smokeless wood burning fire pit, Weber gas grill and various patio seating.
Shared Spaces
The backyard, side yard, laundry area and foyer are all shared spaces with our small family consisting of my husband and I and our adult son. We also have two dogs upstairs that are friendly and only have supervised, limited visits in the yard. Zippy and Jynx are inside much of the time. You can see pictures of Zippy and Jynx in the pictures in this listing.
If a tornado warning is issued for the area, during your stay, we will be visiting you downstairs. Otherwise, we will give you your privacy.
Guest access
You will have access to the foyer/entry, laundry area and entire suite. Guests also have access to our yard, patio, pool (seasonally), fire pit and grill. There are two closets in the apartment that are locked that guests do not have access to. Also, guests do not have access to our garage and our primary residence and living space upstairs.
Other things to note
Pool -
The pool is open from mid May to mid October, depending on weather.
Please be aware that because of access to the pool and the lake children must never be left unsupervised in the outside yard. The pool has an automatic cover with a code required to unlock it and open it. The pool of this property is not equipped with a four-sided isolation fence so extra caution is necessary.
The property may not be suitable for young children because the pool area is not completely fenced. There is a secure, automatic cover that can only be unlocked with a code. There is a gate and a fence barrier around part of the pool, but the perimeter barrier does not extent around the entire backyard area. Adult supervision is always recommended
The cover can only be unlocked and opened with a code. The code and instructions on how to open and close the pool cover will be provided after you have signed the Pool Liability Waiver. The pool is shallow (3.5' -5.5"), and guests should never dive or jump from the pool deck.
Parking -
There is room in the driveway for up to two standard passenger vehicles parked one behind the other. Guest parking will be on the east side of the property near the landscaped peninsula.
Fire Pit - Guests agree to only use the firewood we provide. The Fire Pit should never be used on a yellow or red flag day. The fire pit can only be used by guests 18 years and older. The Fire Pit should never be used during windy or dry or hot weather or when the Indiana Dunes National Park has issued fire hazard warnings. Always monitor your fire. Never leave your fire unattended. Be sure to properly and completely put out your fire before leaving it.
Security Cameras
There are cameras mounted only on the OUTSIDE of the property. They capture the driveway, front door and pool deck.
