I’m not sure how to say this, I really don’t want to hurt the host feelings… But the outside of the little “Cottage” itself is unacceptable(in my opinion)First of all it’s very hard to find, you have to walk between an RV in the driveway and the host’s home, go through a decrepit little gate and then walk through an area where a bunch of chickens are running around I understand now why she did not put pictures of the outsideI was supposed to meet my girlfriend there, luckily I arrived first, called my girlfriend and told her not to show upEven as a man, I’m not sure I would have stayed there by myself. There was no way I was subjecting my girlfriend to this environmentI did meet the host before I actually saw the Cottage, she was extremely friendly. that was the highlight, meeting her I ended up not staying the night and found a local hotel in Birmingham

My cottage has exceptional reviews on other sites and we pride ourselves in making both the cottage stay and English country feel a highlight of people’s experience when they enter the gate… Everyone is very amazed at both their stay and felt like they are not in the US at all but in Europe far away. I love that… As for the chickens they don’t bother anyone and add to the English country feel as they graze seeds in the grass … it’s very beautiful! I’d say this guest needs to stick to a Cracker Jack hotel that is the same anywhere… that would probably fit you best as our cottage is more liking to a younger generation… elderly people seem to like hotel chains better.

Home away from home!

This nice little cottage was nestled away. It made you feel like you were far away from the hustle and bustle of life. We loved it and were able to relax and enjoy our stay. The place was very clean and quiet. It was a cozy little home away from home for my son and I!!

English Cottage in Birmingham

Cozy and comfortable cottage in Birmingham near Glen Iris and George Ward Parks. There are just a few steps to climb and some uneven ground that is easily navigated by most folks. Decor was very welcoming and comfortable. Welcome kit was most inviting.

Perfect hideaway

Lovely Cottage

Lovely cottage close to downtown! This location is behind the owner’s house, but it has a separate entry point. The host was very kind, gracious and responded quickly to messages. The cottage is large and is in a secluded and quiet neighborhood. It is perfect for a couple people to gather and boasts of all the basic necessities.

Quaint Property But Didn't Work Out

The property overall was nice/quaint, but I had to leave after day one of a three day trip because of an allergic reaction to something in the house. I appreciate that the owner refunded a portion of my stay after I contacted VRBO. The owner was very friendly and greeted me despite my late arrival which was nice. That said, the driveway was unmarked/very difficult to find and I drove by 2-3 times before just luckily pulling into the correct driveway.The property as I said was nice, however had there been more photos of the kitchen and bathroom I would not have selected the property because (1) there was only a mini refrigerator and no pantry for the kitchen space and (2) the bathroom was very cramped and had no place to put your toiletries. Additionally, the cottage itself is attached to what looks to be an animal coop for the ducks or other poultry in the photos. If you're looking for a boutique place to stay this is an okay option.

Delightful Stay

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming property which turned out to be a delightful experience, particularly due to the exceptional service provided by the host. Upon arrival, we encountered a minor hiccup with the heating system, but what truly stood out was the speed and efficiency with which this issue was addressed. The host was quick to respond, showing genuine concern for our comfort, and had the problem rectified in no time. This swift resolution allowed us to enjoy the rest of our stay in a warm, cozy environment. The rest of the amenities and the overall ambiance of the property were wonderful, making this a memorable and comfortable stay. I was thoroughly impressed by the host's dedication to ensuring our stay was nothing short of perfect.

Inaccurate listing

My expectations are probably differnet than the other patrons. This "cottage" is behind the host's home. It is not downtown or near downtown. I arrived at night and I was afraid that someone may assume I was trespassing. The host did send a message regarding check in. I would not have stayed in someone's backyard. The interior of the "cottage" is accurate. However, the bed was not comfortable. It was very firm and I did not sleep well both nights. I did not have a sense of security being in someones backyard in a city I am unfamiliar with. There were carpenter ants in the bathroom and millipedes in the shower. I killed the ones I saw. Maybe they just need a pest control to help mitigate that. My concern was I never felt safe and it inhibited my ability to rest at night. I would have never booked this if I had known this was in someone's backyard. There was a hatchet on the horse trailer as I was walking to the "cottage." Again, my expectations are different than others. There was no check out procedures. I just did what most ask and put towels on the floor and I did not see a trash can. I just took all of my trash with me. Also, I received an unprofessional text from a number saying, "what time are you arriving?" I asked who is this? The reply was, "your host." This host was not accurate in the description I would not stay here again.

Dear guest…first off I’d like to address several things you brought up. Our distance to Downtown Birmingham is exactly one exit away… I’m not sure you can get any closer without staying in a skyrise. Regarding the cottage, yes it’s on property. As for checkin instructions, well I sent a list via VRBO’s app but I never received a response from you on the app… hence the reason I tried communicating to you via text. Not sure if you paid any attention at all to the communication method in place via the app. As for the firm bed… well it’s relatively new and it’s a good thing for many. About your feeling of insecurity in a city your unfamiliar with and the cottage… I think you should stay closer to home next time you consider leaving… some people look at new cities and stays as an adventure. As for ants I’ll be sure to take care of that! Again you have brought up your fearful condition and I’m trying to wrap my head around that because we have a very peaceful and sweet neighborhood which is extremely quiet at night… so that’s very confusing. As for the hatchet, it’s there because we need it to chop wood for campfires when we go camping… they are a necessary item for campfires you know. Lastly you should know that it’s necessary for guests to respond to communication via the VRBO app and because you never responded to me… I was forced to text you. The app makes everything smoother try using it on your next stay.
