We are the Dawson family and thank you for visiting our page!

Our family immediately fell in love with Houghton Lake and surrounding community after purchasing our up north home back in 2018. As a family with two young boys, we have enjoyed all that each of the four seasons in Northern Michigan have to offer and were eager to begin sharing those same amazing experiences with other families. For that reason, we couldn’t be more excited to introduce N. Iroquois Away!

Located just steps from beautiful Houghton Lake and direct access to over 2000 miles of off road trails- N. Iroquois Away delivers a relaxing up-north getaway that’s sure to be full of memorable experiences for your family. We provide a cozy, comfortable and simple home away from home! For your convenience, this adorable log cabin is furnished with 2 separate queen bedrooms, a full loft equipped with 2 twin beds with luxury bedding and a fully stocked kitchen that is ready for creating delicious meals. Additionally you’ll enjoy an oversized, partially shaded yard- perfect for picnics, yard games and even tent/RV camping! We have provided the best amenities to make your stay the most comfortable so that all you need to do is create memories!

Great house with a great location

The house was beautiful with ample parking. We were in town for a high school bass tournament and were able to fit two trucks with boats in the driveway.

Comfy and convenient

Great stay. Super well kept with lots of little amenities. Kitchen could be a little bigger but it worked. Great location. We had a ball.

Great place

The cabin is well kept and the clean. We had fun piling into the living room to tell stories and hang out after visiting family that lives around the lake.

Perfect Getaway

Such an adorable cabin inside and out. Very clean and stocked with everything you need. The kids enjoyed the upstairs loft. Beach down the street and close to other beaches as well. Many restaurants, cute stores and activities near by.

Great Stay

Was in town for a bass tournament. 4 guys, 4 trucks with boats. Parking was plentiful, always an issue for us. Cabin was very clean, cozy and all the amenities you would need. Will definitely book again

Family vacation

This was a great family vacation spot. Cottage was very clean and accommodating. We enjoyed a beautiful week filled with a pontoon rental, grilling out, dinners out, Lakeland Recreation center, putt putt, golf, Roscommon Zoo, board games and campfires. A lot of conveniences close by and ownership was very courteous.

We had the best time! Danielle was amazing and so very helpful, with lots of ideas for us, along with providing games and some art supplies. Go carts nearby were fun, along with mini golf and great restaurants. We will be back

Cozy & Welcoming Cabin

The cabin was welcoming and clean the moment we stepped in. Enjoyed time outside on the back deck and Sullivan Beach. One of the mornings was a bit chilly but the small electric fireplace was great. Great time in Houghton. House would have been better if upstairs beds could been used. Due to furnace being right next to the bed it was impossible to stay up there. Two of our guests had to sleep on the living room floor.

Perfect little cabin!!

From when we took the 1st step in the cabin we feel in love. It is the perfect little cabin. Clean cozy, my idea of a perfect little up north cabin. The corner lot is nice and big for kids to run around and play. Backing in my boat in the nice large paved driveway was easy. Friendly neighbors and people all around. Everything you need is no more the 5mins away. Danielle is amazing to rent from. GEAT communication with questions answered quickly and anything you need to make your stay great! We Did Not Stay - Location Not Described Accurately

We did not stay. We left the cabin/property less than two hours after we arrived. We spent the majority of the time we were in the cabin calling and speaking to both the host (property owner) and a VRBO representative. We explained to both individuals that the property was not what we were expecting. The property listing stated that the cabin was "located just steps from beautiful Houghton Lake ", when actually the cabin was at least 0.2 miles from the lake. I explained to the host and VRBO that I recently had back surgery and was unable to walk any appreciable distance. The host/owner asked if supplying us a wagon to carry things to and from the beach would help. I told her thank you, but a wagon wouldn't change the fact that I would still be required to walk the distance to the lake. We could not resolve our issues with the owner or VRBO so we locked up the cabin and departed for home. We had informed both VRBO and the property owner that we were not going to stay, and that we would be leaving and driving the 2-1/2 hours to get back home. The VRBO property listing also states in three separate places that the cabin's location was on a lake and/or beach.
