We had been to Puerto Rico before, but not to this area. We were enticed by the description of the property that certainly met our needs - three bedrooms, a full kitchen and a close beach. It was exactly as billed and even more! The house had all the amenities we required, was clean and quiet, had a beautiful yard with a nice pool. The beach was just down the road and was to die for!! It was perfect!! Other pluses were very close to shopping and the autopista, a nature park next door, AND your own concierge! We were also fortunate that the owners were at their house next door and became instant friends. They were not intrusive in any way and endeavoured to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We would return in a shot!!
This property is very special and full of character. If you are looking to check out from the busy traffic of society this is the perfect rental. the beach is just a block away and there were whole days that we didn't see another person there. The beach is beautiful and wild and if you are strong enough take the kayaks to Monkey island and snorkle the shipwreck. This house itself is nice and simple. The A/C blows ice cold and the kitchen is great. The rooms are simple and small but there are a lot of beds and futons to choose from. The pool is a gem - clean and quite and a real treat to come home to after hot and humid days.
We stayed 10 days here in August and didn't want to leave. Nancy is great and extremely helpful without being too nosey. Highly recommend to the traveler that values peace and quiet, seclusion, and wild nature over comfort hotel-type accommodations and hustle/bustle.
We booked this home 5 month prior to our vacation and were really excited about staying there. Unfortunately when we got there we found the house to be poorly maintained with broken outlets, bare wires coming from the wall, rusty screws or nails protruding from the shower stall, windows in both bathrooms that don't close; it was not a safe environment. The pictures of the backyard canal are deceiving. It is #1 completely gated off w/ no entrance. #2 the dock is broken and shoved into tree's. The beach down the street is very dirty. The house was also dirty. Stained bedding with only 1 bed out of 4 even having a sheet...the rest just had a stained mattress pads, mismatched pillowcases, and a comforter. Mildew, dirt, and bugs everywhere in the house. We were trying to accept that this is what we were going to have to make work for the vacation we work and save all year for... but then we realized that the AC was not ever going to cool off the house. Possibly because of the windows that don't close, the huge gap around the door...I really don't know. Julian keeps telling me how many BTU's of AC it has...but I plain don't care because it doesn't matter if it doesn't keep the house cool! I did cook dinner in there after I clean the kitchen, but that is why we stay in a home rather than a hotel. We weren't willing to eat out every meal with 3 teenagers to MAYBE have it cool enough to be able to sleep when we payed a lot of money to stay there! So we left after one night. Julian & Nancy are New Yorkers and very nice until you have a problem; then that changes. I have had to file a case with Homeaway to try to get our money back b/c they have not even refunded our security dep. after 18 days.. much less the 6 days that we did not stay at the home that would be right. They ruined the first day & a half of our 7 day vacation. I have pictures documenting everything that I have reported in this statement for anyone that would like them. Trust me you DO NOT want to stay there! We ended up moving to an amazing condo in Luquillo that was properly maintained, clean, with a giant private roof top terrace right on the ocean for $60 less a night than we had paid Julian for this gross hole. In 8yrs of renting homes on HomeAway and VRBO; this is our 1st experience with a bad home and owner. Who knows how long we will have to fight to get our money back :/ It's such a nightmare. Don't discredit negative reviews like I did.
We enjoyed a week in February with our 2 adult sons and their wives. There was ample space for the 6 of us to enjoy ourselves without feeling crowded. The photos are accurate and all the promised conveniences were there and in working order.
We spent most of the daylight hours outside. The beach was beautiful and virtually deserted, so very private! The water was warm for swimming and when the wind was not too high, good for kayaking. We found sets of wheels in the garage that were easy to attach under the kayaks to make pulling them down the sidewalk to the beach an easy task.
We really wanted to kayak in the nature reserve behind the house, but the water level was too low during our stay. Can't argue with Mother Nature, though.
The nature reserve is so close and so interesting to explore that we packed lunches and spent our first 2 days just poking happily around there. It's SO beautiful!
During the evenings we spent at "home" cooking for ourselves, we ate in the backyard under the little gazebo. The sounds of all the frogs singing at night was quite enchanting. There were virtually no bugs and no neighbours nearby during our stay, so we were free to talk and laugh outside without fear of bothering anyone.
There's a row of little restaurants an easy walk from the house - practically next to the entrance gate and easy to reach through a field. We ate there on our first night, and returned on our last night for beer and karaoke at the little bar. That night there was a huge group of friendly bikers there enjoying their annual get-together. We had great fun and always felt safe.
The only bumps we encountered related to temperature regulation in 2 of the bedrooms, which made sleeping a challenge at times. The other challenge was connecting with Nancy due to our Canadian phone not being reachable from her Puerto Rican phone. I had to route requests through Julian who, in spite of being out of the country throughout our stay, was very prompt in his replies. Nancy came right over to help. Clearly both he and Nancy care very much about guest comfort and satisfaction.
Our car rental agency (Mex) gave away the minivan I had booked (grrr). They substituted a sedan built for 5, so we had to pay an extra $100 each way to hire a taxi (in addition to the rental car) to get us and our luggage to and from the airport. Nancy connected us to Israel, a taxi driver reliable enough to show up at 5:00 in the morning to take us to the airport. Thanks Nancy!
Property is in great shape everything as advertised, gated community peaceful and private. Pool and grounds are a invitation to nature.
Our thanks to Nancy she was always available. We would return to rent.
Great place to stay.
We were in Puerto Rico for a week and really enjoyed coming back to the house everyday. The pool and backyard was amazing. We cooked on the grill almost every day. Booking with Julius was easy and he was very quick to reply to questions.
Nancy (the concierge) was awesome! She answered our questions and had many suggestions. One of the suggestions was the snorkeling/monkey island trip with Paco. We went to monkey island with Paco and had a blast.
The house was great! It had everything. The neighborhood was gated and was very quiet. I felt like we were the only ones there several times. I will and have already recommended this property to friends and family.
