Heron’s Nest Cabin sits on a wooded hillside above Hale Passage and Bellingham Bay — a two-bedroom island retreat where towering firs, filtered water views, and a cedar hot tub under the trees set the tone from the moment you arrive. Guests consistently call this one of the most restorative places they’ve ever stayed, and the details make the difference: a soaking cedar hot tub, a wood stove to curl up beside, heated bathroom floors, vaulted ceilings, and a fully outfitted kitchen for slow mornings and easy dinners.
It’s only a short ferry ride from Bellingham, but Lummi Island operates on its own quiet clock — and this cabin slows you down the rest of the way.
THE SPACE
What guests love most:
Cedar hot tub — The clear fan favorite. Nestled in the trees off the deck, it’s the perfect cap to a hike or a cold afternoon. Available year-round.
Outdoor cedar shower house — An open-air rinse surrounded by forest. Surprisingly beloved, even in cooler months.
Wood stove — Perfect for cool evenings. Settle in with something warm and let the fire do the rest.
King bedroom with ensuite — Walk-in shower, heated floors, and sleep-inviting quiet. The second bedroom is artfully decorated and equally comfortable.
Chef-ready kitchen — Gas cooktop, full-size oven, and everything you need to cook a real meal. The dining table sits beside the windows with treetop views.
Covered deck + fire pit — Surrounded by forest. Good for morning coffee, evening wine, or watching the light fade through the trees.
Vaulted ceilings + window seats — Bright, airy, and designed for lingering.
The layout:
Picture this: you wake up to light filtering through the trees, pad into the open living area, and put the kettle on while the wood stove takes the chill off the morning. The kitchen and dining space flow together naturally — treetop views from the table, everything within easy reach. When you’re ready, step outside to the covered deck, and from there it’s just a few steps to the hot tub tucked into the forest, the fire pit, or the cedar shower house. The whole place is designed to draw you outside, then pull you back in.
Getting here:
Just a short ferry ride from Bellingham on the Whatcom Chief. The cabin is set on a hillside — please use care on slopes and around natural terrain. In winter, check weather before travel as ice and snow can affect road access.
