HEART OF EASTSOUND - ENTIRE HOME, IN TOWN
**This is a brand new listing to VRBO, managed by a co-host with over 300 five-star reviews on other platforms**
The Purdue house, built in 1911, is one of the oldest historic homes on the island and was home to one of Orcas Islands original settling families! Located in THE HEART OF EASTSOUND. This 100+ years old home retains some quirky historic features, hidden and quietly perched atop Victory Hill overlooking Eastsound village and offers views of Eastsound itself. Access to the ENTIRE house. PET FRIENDLY. WALKING DISTANCE from coffee, food, shopping groceries, bars, parks, beaches, tours.
WELCOME to the "Purdue House". The "Purdue House", built in 1911 was one of the first home built on Orcas Island by one of the first families to settle on the island. You and your family will have access to the ENTIRE home at the "Purdue House". This two-story home has 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms with a maximum occupancy of 5. Both bedrooms are located downstairs. One bedroom has a private entrance and two twin beds. The full bathroom downstairs offers a tub/shower, full vanity, and outside access to a big wooden deck. The master bedroom offers a king size bed, work nook, reading/lounging chair and views of Eastsound. A twin foldable guest bed is available upon request for a fifth guest.
The "Purdue House" offers a full kitchen with a table/seating for four, a four burner gas stove, electric oven, refrigerator/freezer, coffee maker, microwave, toaster oven, blender, utensils, wine glasses, plates, bowls, pots/pans, baking pans ect.
The spacious living area has a wood burning fireplace, a large leather couch and two spacious lounge chairs, a 50inch smart tv capable of streaming Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, HBO ect. Views of Mt. Constitution (the SJI's highest peak!) and Buck Mt.
The "The Purdue House" has a charming enclosed deck that offers views of Eastsound, seating perfect for lounging, having a cup coffee in the morning or relaxing as the day goes by.

Guest will have access to the ENTIRE home. This perfectly located home is in the heart of the historic village of Eastsound, Orcas Islandâs downtown district. This walkable village bustles with lifeâa visitorâs dream of galleries, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and a history museum. Historically, it was the center of Coast Salish tribal commerce. Now, locals and visitors enjoy its natural beauty and quaint charms. After spending a day whale watching, shopping, or hiking, you can relax with a massage, delicious meal, concert or play, or head to the seasonal farmerâs market.
Just a beautiful 10-minute drive from the "Purdue House" is the highly recommended Moran State Park. Moran park offers over 50 miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horses. Seasonally, the two lakes located within the park allow non-motorized fishing. While visiting the park, you can take a 15-minute drive to the top of Mt. Constitution with breathtaking views of the entire Puget Sound area.
Occasionally we may have small landscaping work around the home, watering and maintaining the grounds. Otherwise we plan to stay out of the guests way. Always available if needed.
The Purdue House sits on Victory Hill, right downtown Eastsound. Walking distance to everything in town couldnât be more convenient. On Victory Hill there is one other home across the roadway. This home is still in the building process however the remainder of the build is largely indoor, finishing work. The crew is very respectful of guests at the Purdue House.
Wrap around windows give views of sweeping Madrona and quaint bustling Eastsound, tucked away just enough to be quiet and peaceful atop the hill.
There is designated parking for Purdue guests. You may unload and load items at the front door. If you need to park more permanently closer to the front door this can be arranged with advance notice.
Given the location of the home and your interests while on Orcas it is possible to stay here without a vehicle and enjoy much of the island in the summer months riding the shuttle.
Pet Policy:
Thereâs a 2 pet maximum at the Purdue House. Upon booking please notify us if you will be traveling with more than one pet as there is an additional fee per pet. Pet fee is due upon booking and must be paid prior to checking in.
Curious what we mean by quirky historic features?! Just what you might expect in a 100 year old home. As you approach the Purdue home you'll enter through a front entry rain porch, perfect for those PNW days. The house features all the modern amenities and upgrades necessary for a comfortable stay and you just can't miss the old charm character for a memorable stay. A noteworthy wood burning fireplace presents a striking brick accent wall in the airy kitchen. The bright kitchen windows wrap around into the living room providing ample views to town below. Noteworthy fixtures and features around the home will have you wondering what life may have been like in this very home years and years ago. Although we've straightened and aligned the couches, beds, pillows and chairs you might get the impression the home is slightly listing. It's not the local Orcas Winery "Bloom" wine you're enjoying playing tricks on you, the home does have a bit of a bowed effect.
