Pre-communications with owner assured us our larger group of 16 would be just fine in the space (kept screenshots of this convo). Upon arrival, the house was not clean/ready by 4. When we did come back, the house was utterly lacking appropriate supplies for a group even as large as 10 (which listing said). There were exactly 4 forks and 4 butter knives in the drawers. 3 coffee mugs. 6 water glasses. There were SEVEN total towels in the entire house, and not a single dish towel. We had 9 plates. The pots and pans were dismal. There were 8 dining chairs, and 8 total bed pillows. Each bed had just a single sheet and one overlay "quilt" that the cleaning person did not clean when turning over the property. A thick layer of dust on every fan, shade and light-fixture. The heat wasn't working and temps were in the 20s overnight.
We reached out that night to the owner expressing our concern over lack of supplies on the first night. He first asked us to go to the store to get our own supplies and he would reimburse us. Given the misleading post about the state of the house, we did not trust that to happen, so he arranged to have his cleaning person pick up towels, blankets, dishes, and silverware. He was frustrated with our asks on the phone and we had many conversations where he was mad that we were asking to have enough supplies for our guests (given he'd assured me multiple times in advance that the house could easily accommodate our group)
After many convos. the cleaning person was able to buy and deliver the items by the evening of our second day. I then received a text from the owner asking us to take out the trash for trash day the following day and "Also, please help us to keep all the items in good condition. It cost $40 uber for the cleaning lady communication. All the items cost are more than $700. We could not afford them an have to return them if possible when you check out..."
I was floored by his desire to return used household goods, and said as much. Even if the house hosted 10 people, it absolutely would not have accommodated them.
The dishwasher was broken & after telling us they sent someone to fix it, it never worked throughout the week.
After returning home and a difficult stay, we received a notice of an insurance claim of THEFT of the items they'd purchased while we were there. This was beyond offensive. Ultimately, it seems Owen (owner) has never been to this property in person and has no clue what he's doing.
