Hi Michelle, I apologize that you did not feel the experience was up to par. It’s unfortunate that there were noisy neighbors at the time of your stay, 9 times out of 10 nobody is next door. The National Forest land is right across the street and hunting is permitted so hearing an occasional gunshot would be normal in the fall. I apologize that you did not feel safe, and this is the first time we have ever had a report like this. We have tried to manage expectations, but it sounds like we need to reiterate everything multiple times in the listing and maybe add more pictures to really drive the point home which I have done this morning. The cabin actually had just a pull down ladder to reach the loft when we purchased the home, so adding the stairs was a huge improvement! Unfortunately the funky layout made it impossible to add stairs any other way without doing some major construction to the house which is not in the cards for us at this point. It is mentioned and pictured in the listing but I have added more wording for future guests. The hodgepodge of different materials is certainly true! Again we have mentioned in the listing that the cabin is a work in progress and has plenty of imperfections that don’t take away from any functionality, but again we will try to add more detailed info about these imperfections. There is no washer/dryer provided which is clearly stated in the listing and correctly set as not included in our amenities so not much I can do there. As for outdoor lighting, we do have a motion light at the front entrance as well as solar lighting all around both decks but it sounds like we may need to add more if that was not enough when arriving late at night. The fireplace is functional and may have been something simple to troubleshoot if you had reached out to us we would have been glad to help figure it out. Overall it seems like it was not the best fit, I think it was a combo of you possibly not reading the full description of the property before booking and us maybe not being forceful enough about description of the rustic cabin with imperfections. As for It not being up to VRBO standards, I think that’s not really fair or relevant. You can rent anything from aa campsite to a mansion on VRBO, this is a beautiful nature haven in a great location with all the amenities one would need and more to have a great time, it’s just not right for every type of person. Grateful that most our guests “get it” and can appreciate what the cabin has to offer and overlook the cosmetic imperfections. We feel out price-point is fair in comparison to other places in the area and are constantly researching this as well as making future renovation plans.
