YOUR JEKYLL ISLAND VACATION HOME
Welcome to Mocama—a two-bedroom, two-bathroom Jekyll Island vacation rental named after the Timucua, the people who called this place home long before it had a name. Mocama means “the sea”—or, depending on who you ask, the place where the sun and moon are born.
Built in 1955 and designed by Laurence Miller (the architect behind the King and Prince and the causeway towers), it was one of the first homes constructed after the Gilded Age elite found paradise lost. History runs through the walls here—but it’s not a museum. It’s a beach house of legend.
Mocama is 2.3 miles from Driftwood Beach and 2 miles from the Jekyll Island Convention Center. Close enough for sunrise, quiet enough for stars. Inside, it’s all mid-century charm and barrier island soul—white-beamed ceilings, open sightlines, and black-and-white photography shot by the owner on Georgia’s wilder edges.
The living room has a fireplace, a flat-screen TV, and plenty of room to stretch out or pile in. French doors lead to the sun porch—part guest quarters, part secret clubhouse—where two twin trundles, a 60" smart TV, and a second dining table make it the go-to for coming of age, sleeping through breakfast, and game nights left unsettled.
The kitchen’s built for actual cooking, not just looking—a full suite of tools, center island for prep, and a bar pass-through to a dining nook that seats six under a chandelier that’s pure accidental Wes Anderson.
