This was a nice stay for a family of 4 (2 teens). We really enjoyed being able to walk to dinner and shops. We were within a half hour drive of all the Black Hills attractions. The space in the house is set up well. We didn't bring a pet, but the place is pet friendly. No central air, so you have to leave the doors open to circulate the cool air to the other rooms. Nice neighborhood.

Property served its purpose of a place to stay with the kids and dog. Location was convenient and property overall was clean and well stocked with supplies. Property could use some general upkeep. Fence needs some work, shower has clear signs of quick fixes. Certainly not a luxury stay but a comfortable option for traveling with pets and being available last minute.

Great location. Walking distance to downtown shops/restaurants and centrally located for our families Black Hills adventures. The Custer State park pass was a big plus. Was great to have our dog be able to come with us.

Clean, Perfect Little Vacation Rental

The first thing we noticed was the cleanliness of the property. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. The fenced yard was perfect for our dogs. Beds were very comfy and house is stocked with all of the essentials.

Location was fantastic

It was an easy walk to town and close to senic roads and Custer State park. The pass for the park we got with the rental was a nice touch. The fenced in yard was nice for our dogs.

To the next renter , RUN! We walked in to an over powering pinesol smell only to find out why- we were sleeping in a stench of urine so strong it burned your throat. Upon removing a mattress cover, we found blood and urine with dryer sheets covering it to try and mask the smell, an unacceptable health hazard Dryer sheets were tucked into the couch you can’t sit on because of the stench! Fence is broken and we had to repair for the safety of our pet as well as signs other guests did as well. Mold in the bathroom, broken and chewed blinds, towel bar falls off the wall. Host had a “ cleaning lady” drop off charcoal bags, again trying to mask smells and not address the facts. Host is declaring a new mattress is being delivered That I cannot attest to because conveniently it is arriving the day after our stay. Photos included. Follow up host refunded 1/2 but charged 100 pet fee that is not mentioned in contract or booking price. Due to health hazard and safety issues we asked for full refund leaving was offered but paying our 2k for hotel accommodation was not offered

We take cleanliness, guest comfort, and property maintenance very seriously, and we were deeply saddened that this stay fell short of expectations. When our cleaning team attempted to mask an odor on turnover using dryer sheets and heavy cleaners, we immediately took responsibility. On day three, we explicitly offered to cancel the remaining reservation with a full refund so the guests could relocate, which they declined, choosing instead to stay for the entire 8-night duration. Following their departure, we threw out and replaced the mattress and completed all maintenance items. Additionally, while our listing explicitly discloses a standard $100 pet fee, we waived this charge entirely during our final mutual resolution with Vrbo support. We pride ourselves on providing a 5-star experience at our cottage, and we appreciate the opportunity to continuously improve our home for future guests.

Perfect Location for our Fall Break Stay!

We loved the town of Custer and this charming house was right in the heart of it. We were able to walk to restaurants and shops. The location was also a perfect jumping off point for seeing the sites in the Black Hills. We went far and wide and decided our favorite excursion was a day in Custer State Park, where we saw Bison and Prairie Dogs and a host of other wildlife. It was awesome to come home each day to the peaceful little cottage where we ended the evening with a movie and then to bed. The matresses were heaven!

Cozy, comfortable and convenient.

This property was perfect for our 3 night stay in Custer. My daughter had her own room which she enjoyed. I really liked the fact that I could sip my coffee while sitting on the porch in the morning. My wife really liked the bed which was far more comfortable than the hotel beds we slept on the few nights before. Just about everything in Custer is within walking distance of the cottage. It was perfect.

Perfect for our purposes

The location was perfect, close enough to walk to every where in town if others wanted to drive to a further destination. It was a quiet neighborhood and the home was clean and comfortable. Everyone agreed the beds were heaven! The only thing I would add is a small dresser in each bedroom and more towel bars or hooks in the bathroom. We would stay there again.

We are the VonFeldt’s. A family of 5 that loves travel and adventure. My name is Adam and my wife’s name is Savana. Our three kids are Link, Avalon, and Riggins. Both Savana and I grew up in the midwest, but moved and met in Arizona after college. My work is remote, and Savana is a teacher, so we are able to escape the summer heat in Arizona and road trip back to the midwest every summer to visit family and friends. Over the past several years we would travel through the Black Hills of South Dakota and fell in love with it so much that we decided to get a vacation home in Custer. We are thrilled to share our Cute Custer Cottage with you.

After spending the day driving around and exploring, it is so nice to get back to the cottage and not have to worry about parking.
