DalSoren is very unique and cozy. Great for families with small children or adult groups. Host thought of everything to make us feel welcome. Property is beautiful but very remote which we enjoyed.

This was our second visit this year. Mother nature rained on us and sun baked us some of the days both times but Hosts can't control the weather. Other than that, the place was perfect for a beautiful, quiet place to go!

Our stay at Dalsoren was fantastic! Thea's communication leading up to our stay was very timely and helpful. The property itself is gorgeous, with extensive walking/hiking trails mowed throughout the 245 acres. The home is outfitted with just about everything you could ever need. It's an incredibly relaxing environment which is exactly what we were looking for. We stayed 9 nights and were never wanting for anything. We HIGHLY recommend Dalsoren!!We have travelled to the Driftless Region several times and the views & scenery are beautiful. We loved exploring the local area - some of our favorites included the Dane County Farmers Market in Madison, Hooks Cheese in Mineral Point, the shops in Mt Horeb. and Frank Lloyd Wright's home (Taliesin) south of Spring Green.

Could we rate this a SIX?! We loved everything about the place, it was way more than we expected. The house architecture was quite interesting, the furnishing were ample and comfortable, the amenities were plentiful and the property was fantastic. The lot is very private and quiet and the trails on the preserve were lots of fun to hike (we didn’t get to walk all of them due to some rainy days). The surrounding country side is breathtaking. We enjoyed our stay very much and plan to visit again.

For anyone who loves nature, this place is for you! Not only is Dalsoren House immaculate, comfortable, and a story by itself, the entire property is a gem. We spent countless hours outside wandering the property, enjoying the all of the nature that surrounded us. We were surprised to be at the right place at the right time many times - when a tree fell in the woods, when we came nearly face-to-face with a doe (thankfully, the trout stream was between us) who didn't appreciate our presence (evidenced by her huffs), and when the chattering sandhill cranes flew above us. Mowed paths led us on different walks each day. The stars at night were breath-taking. Inside, the accommodations were excellent and kept us very comfortable. Every light switch/outlet is labeled for easy use of the house. The kitchen was super clean. Windows provided great views outside as well as lovely decoration inside with stained glass panels. We felt secluded and private in this exceptional piece of nature.I spent our first two evenings reading the story of the family matriarch's journey to America. It was fascinating and very well-written! I imagined where they might have built their initial dugout on the land. I would have loved to have also learned about subsequent generations. Had we stayed longer, I would have read the entire story again. Maybe next time, as this is a place we plan to visit again! Thanks to Thea and the Thompson family for sharing this very special place with us!

Great house for a weekend getaway with our dogs! The dogs loved being able to run around the property and trails throughout the prairie grass! Would definitely recommend when looking for a quiet/private location.

What a gem of a place! It is so peaceful, original, and with great amenities. Our 2 year old had fun playing with the toys and games provided, and our 3 month old loved looking at the stained glass windows. Very lucky that the host has chosen to share this place as a VRBO and the s’mores were delicious !

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful stay— my husband, our dog and I loved exploring the trails around the property. We saw (and heard) a number of birds, including some sandhill cranes. The location was private and serene, and the house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. A perfect home base for exploring all the region has to offer— from taverns and breweries to parks.

A retreat in the woods

We loved our stay. The cabin was peaceful, the property was beautiful, and the whole experience was rejuvenating. Lots of walks, lots of family games, lots of reading.
