Vermont cabin on a brook close to White Mountains
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to get away, or an adventure in the nomountains, our cape is the perfect stay! It’s a 2/2 plus a den with a full size futon, and a queen pullout couch in the living room. There’s 3 fire pits! Enjoy fishing in the brook, relaxing in the hammock, or even camping. Located in the NEK, minutes away from NH, and 3 miles from the CT River. 1 hour from Maine. Direct VAST snowmobile access. Find us on IG and FB to see more @ cabin on the brook
The cape was built in 1960 as a camp, and transitioned into a home. It is located almost halfway down an 8 mile dirt road with Mountain View’s, but only a 10 minutes from a state road, the Connecticut river, 15 minutes away from Lancaster, New Hampshire, with gas stations, a grocery store, restaurants, coffee shops, a bakery, medical center, mechanics, and more. Less than 30 minutes from Maidstone State Park, Victory State Forest, Whitefield and Santa’s Village!!
SPRING/SUMMER: This is a typical New England home with no central air-conditioning, but we have a window unit upstairs and another one in the main living area, there’s fans throughout the house. It’s also tick season, so please use tick spray and wear light colored clothing when going outdoors. Check yourself before going indoors.
WINTER TIME: 4WD, snow tires/tire chains are recommended in Vermont/New Hampshire. Please be prepared for winter conditions, and icy spots. Only part of our driveway gets plowed regularly for cars to drive in and out. We have shovels accessible just in case. Also shoe spikes for lending. The cape’s main heat source is oil, which gets refilled once a month through pipes in the back shed.
The cape was built in 1960 as a camp, and over the years, modified into a family home. During the winter, there are vast snowmobile trails off our road with direct access to the property. Before booking to ride the snowmobile trails, please check the most up to date trail conditions for Essex county Vermont, and if you plan to ride into NH, check trails into Coos county. Please ride responsibly.
Due to the natural elements surrounding the cape and the location, you might see a variety of insects, rodents and wildlife year round. The cape offers a unique experience that truly defines a mountain/forest getaway. We do spray the place for pests, and we also use ultrasonic pest machines throughout the house. But please keep in mind that this is a cabin located in the woods.
You can park anywhere in front yard during non-snowy conditions. Once it starts snowing, please park in the assigned parking spot on the left side of the property, so the plow trucks can get through both entrances. Please do not move the wheelbarrow, because It’s sitting over where the underground septic system is.
This is our family’s home-away-from-home, but we’re happy to share it with others while we’re not living in it. Please use it with care & respect.
The garage is not available for guest use, unless in an emergency. Please contact the host if needed.
The downstairs bunk bed room doesn’t have a door, but there’s a curtain for privacy. Next to the bunk bed room is the den which has a futon, there’s no door for this room either, but we have provided a foldable room divider for privacy.
WILDLIFE: Please DO NOT feed the black bears if you see one. Don’t leave trash outside. In the distance, you might hear others hunting or target practicing. It’s nothing to worry about.
Please do not use steps to bridge in the backyard during winter.
THE KITCHEN: despite the cape’s small kitchen, it is equipped with many basic cooking and baking necessities, such as a toaster oven, regular toaster, crockpot, milk warmer/frother, tea kettle, coffee maker, blender, wine glasses, plenty of pots and pans, serving trays, pancake, waffle mini griddles. There might be left over spices and dry ingredients in the cabinet, as well as in the fridge leftover by other guests. Please use at your own discretion. We throw away expired items.
The cape is on a dirt road, which is serviced during the winter. There are a few dozen seasonal and year-round occupied properties down the road, as well as farms. The Cape sits on half an acre with neighboring seasonal properties. Despite its remote location, there are two towns within a 15-20 minute drive that have grocery stores, restaurants, and a medical center.
We recommend turning left out of the Cape when leaving the property to take the shortest route to VT-102, which will connect you to the neighboring towns of Vermont and New Hampshire. The great thing about getting around is that the cape makes you feel like you are very remote, yet you can still get around by car any time of the year, with towns nearby.
There are video doorbell cameras at each door for the safety of the guest.
NO pets, NO parties, NO X rated productions, and NO smoking of any kind inside the house. Clean up your cigarette butts outside. Rocks in brook are slippery, go in at your own risk. No parking on/near septic system, no flushing anything else other than toilet paper, drain only liquids in sinks. If children play on the property, they must be supervised at all times. No crossing into neighboring properties.
