Weekend Getaway

Our family stayed at this lakefront property for a short weekend getaway to do some hiking near Garden of the Gods. The property was clean and spacious with plenty of activities for the kids and room for everyone to have their own privacy as well. Would recommend this place for small groups or families!

We were looking for a last minute staycation with our little family. This place was perfect!! It was like a winter wonderland being tucked in the cove with the perfect amount of light coming through. I loved the pines! It was very peaceful. Loved the hot tub. The large windows were amazing and the views were beautiful. I recommend bringing binoculars to see all the ducks!! It was a family activity. Everything was clean and ready to go! The beds were comfortable. There was a few minor maintenance things that need attention, the 2nd floor plug in for the outdoor string lights needs to be replaced. The door-frame from the upstairs bedroom to the bathroom is falling apart. With a few other minor things, I would do a walk around. I have no doubt those will be addressed! Alison is very professional and easy to contact. I also want to recommend adding curtains to the front doors for a little more privacy after dark. We would recommend this place to anyone and would come back! Thank you so much!

Awesome lake house!

This lake house was perfect for the family. With two young kids there was plenty of things to do around the property! Will stay here again next time we visit Lake Egypt.

The Perfect Summer Vacation

This was our second year staying at this property. The outdoor space is unmatched - we love swimming in the lake, jumping off the diving board, and going down the water slide! There are lots of great fishing spots right on the property and so many opportunities to see wildlife right on the property. We can’t wait to come back next year!

Beautiful Setting! Great House!

The house at Sunset Bay is a perfect place to get away from it all. Gorgeously situated on the lake with panoramic views. We loved the full wrap around deck and all of the different places to sit and chill. The house was immaculately clean and had everything we needed. The host was extremely responsive. We would definitely return and I highly recommend this house. 5 stars for sure!!!!

Perfect Fall Break!

This was our first visit to Lake of Egypt, and it was perfect! We lucked out with beautiful weather that allowed us to hike at Ferne Clyffe and Giant City in the mornings and then spend the afternoons on the water. This house was perfect for our two families. The kids had a great time fishing off the dock and going down the slide. The house is well stocked with everything we needed to cook all but one meal (we had to try Triple E BBQ). The shower downstairs was a tight squeeze so just a heads up for taller guests. Overall we had a fabulous trip and would recommend to anyone! The guidebook from Allison was super helpful, too!

Family fun time!!

We had a wonderful stay. It was everything they said it would be. We really enjoyed the boat dock with the water slide and diving board. The screened in porch is also nice. They need to do a little repair work on the back screen door. Its just old and falling apart. But everything else was awesome. We wish they had a black stone griddle for outside that would of helped with cooking a lot of the food. But I would give them 100/100

The property was well represented in the photos. It was clean, open and accessible. Huge windows in living room allowed to enjoy the outside view even while inside. The master bedroom was comfortable and lots of room for clothes and storage. The downstairs shower was quite cramped and small, but worked well. The upstairs bath/ shower combo was a better choice if room was needed. Our only real complaint was the screened porch area. The screens were torn in places and quite dirty, the doors were in disrepair and one was missing completely, and the stairs from the second story to the ground were steep and narrow. There had been few very bad storms a week before we arrived and a few trees fell, taking out the walkway to the playground and the boat slip. It rained a couple of times while we were there and the area where the debris removal and tree cleanup was turned to slippery mud, making the playground treacherous and in the end, inaccessible. But that was nature's fault. The bay area was quiet and peaceful, being right off the main lake area. Saw lots of deer, some right out the front door, walking down drive way and up the hills behind the house. Families of geese with their goslings would wander by and forage in the side yard a couple of times a day. So many goslings!! Between 4 goose families, we counted around 21 babies! Loved being at the end of the road. Did not use the diving board or slide, but fished off the dock and caught many small fish.

Absolutely beautiful property! The views of the lake and property from the windows inside and all the places to sit outside are amazing. The owners are thoughtful with games and toiletries and random things to make your stay more enjoyable, like coffee! The owners put together a very comprehensive visitor’s guide with food, hiking and entertainment. We were outside all the time. A fire pit, a gas fire, a nice charcoal grill, screened in seating, deck seating, playground, bags game, two docks on the lake, gazebo….there was so much to do outside! They even have a game room for indoor fun! We rented a boat one day, we hiked several days checking out the beautiful parks near the house, and we were able to cook most of our meals at the house. We found Boo’s Memorial Park in Carbondale, an amazing park and playground for those with kids. We loved this property and enjoyed a long weekend away with family that reconnected us to each other and nature. Allison helped with any questions and assured our stay was perfect. Amazing home and property that will exceed your expectations.
