Disappointing
Property is spacious and in a lovely setting. Unfortunately, the fifth bedroom is not a bedroom but a loft area containing a single mattress on a dirty boxspring that overlooks a lower level bedroom with exposed ductwork and insulation. The loft area railings are quite open and would be dangerous for children. Electrical chords on the floor are also not child friendly. The kitchen oven appeared to be about 75 degrees cooler than the temperature settings and the pots and pans had to be cleaned before they were usable.
Upon arrival there was an infestation of ladybugs and flies which the owner advised were easiest disposed of with the vacuum. We located the vacuum in a downstairs closet with a mousetrap. That night we heard some scurrying behind the wall near that closet and discovered a dead mouse in the trap the following morning. On day three our other family members arrived. The scampering of mice was heard in the walls and a couple of days later a family member discovered 2 more dead mice behind the refrigerator. One was already bloated and was beginning to smell. I contacted the property owner who assured me that all country houses in CT had mice after the first freeze. He did send someone to remove traps and clean rodent droppings from the upstairs bedroom. My husband immediately disposed of the dead mice before the smell became worse. AS I INFORMED THE OWNER, IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THE MICE I WOULD NEVER HAVE RENTED THIS HOME AND EXPOSED MY GRANDSON AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS TO STAYING IN A PLACE WITH LIVE RODENTS.
On Thanksgiving morning my husband located and disposed of mouse number 4. Although we had a wonderful time getting together as a family for the first time in over 2 years, it was extremely disappointing that our "luxury" rental was not luxurious at all.
