Very clean, but the living room furniture and the kitchen baking sheets and pans definitely need replacing. The entrance to the driveway has a large pothole that's unavoidable, and the driveway itself is gravel. With all the rain it was just puddles and weeds. The 2 toilets are quite close to the walls when you sit down so a larger person might not be comfortable. The floors were very clean and the beds were clean and comfortable.

Super clean. Great, safe & beautiful location! We were only a few minutes from all amenities in St. Louis & then only a few minutes walk to the beautiful castle wood state park! Perfect stay for my family!

Comfy house, private, near attractions

Stayed for a visit with grandkids. Comfortable family space, good size dining table, great for meals and game nights. Location was tucked away in a wooded area, but very easy to access highways and main roads to get to local attractions. Made for the perfect stay.

Appears to be a work in progress. Some things not really finished. Water and ice not working. No window treatments in most of the rooms. Very little table ware and skillet’s too poor condition to make them useful. The stool in the upstairs bathroom is extremely poorly positioned and the hand towel ring needs to be refastened to the wall. If the vent on the outside were the bird droppings are is supposed to be functional it should have the bird nest removed and a screen put on. If the washout on the edge of the road could be fixed would make entry a little nicer. I will say the workmanship on the flooring, painting, trim are quite good. The lighting could be improved with the use of larger “daylight bulbs”. One of the convenience electric outlets didn’t work in the table area. The addition of an outlet with a USB included would be a nice addition or a multi port plugin to make charging more convenient. In the end it is a nice place to stay. Thank you for sharing!

Great house in Ballwin!

My brother and I signed up for pickleball tournament at the Missouri Pickleball Club and stayed in this place with my two nieces who cheered us on. I have been accused of being a snob when it comes to comfort of beds and this place was excellent. My brother took bedroom upstairs with firmer mattress and I took the softer mattress in the downstairs bedroom. The girls had the 2 twins in the third bedroom. Everyone said the beds were very comfortable. We had great time as a family in the house. We cooked breakfast and dinner in the kitchen, made popcorn while watching movies on the smart TV, and talking in the comfy couches in the living room. The owner was very responsive.

2024 Eclipse

We booked this property as a base for a trip to south eastern Missouri to see the 2024 solar eclipse. It worked great for the 5 of us + dog. Property exceeded all expectations! Plenty of room, clean, well appointed with all the cooking and supplies we would need. Proximity to Castlewood state park was a plus. Communications with the owner were great.

The property fit our needs well. We were a group of 4 with two dogs. Plenty of cookware, dishes, towels, etc. beds were comfortable. A/C was welcome given the unseasonably warm weather. Road leading to the home could be a little difficult to navigate if there is winter weather.

cabin - close to city

We really enjoyed staying at the property. Do note that there are still no kitchen towels/washcloths - bring your own. We had small children with us and felt that the staircase was very steep, so use caution when selecting this property. The twin beds are upstairs, which is where children would most likely be sleeping. There are minimal utensils. We had five people, and there were five forks. But we loved waking up and seeing a grouping of deer outside the windows.

Nice and quiet

Nice place. Rustic. Bring your own kitchen towels and a sweater if the weather will be cool. Heat is governed to 70 degrees max. No closets or hangers. Washer and dryer is great. Mattress is comfortable. This is an awesome 1919 updated house.

Family time

Great setting in the woods. A few items of note: toilet paper holder very loose, fell off often, top step of stairs is loose and could easily cause a fall, window sills had bugs, kitchen and main bedroom need repainting badly-scuff marks made those rooms look dirty and untidy. We felt the house was put together quickly for a rental and not finished properly. We enjoyed the area, but were disappointed in the house.

Great race and weather

Lovely weather for Ozark Foothills race which we went to watch. Really great race! Beds good, livingroom furniture ok. Home was in need of a deep thorough clean. Light fixtures and ceiling fans furry with grimy dirt, cobwebs and dead bugs on window sills and light fixtures, and top step still loose(as mentioned in previous review). Kitchen minimally stocked. No dishtowels and minimal mixing/baking dishes. Messaged owner morning of checkout about a few things and a week later still no response...

Comfortable and secluded

This was a great place for our family to stay while exploring Six Flags and St. Louis. It took longer to get to Six Flags than I expected (30 minutes) because it was definitely off the beaten path. But the area was safe and quiet. We even spotted several deer! The home was clean, beds were comfortable, and the showers worked great. I was disappointed that there was no ice nor any way to make ice. A couple of ice cube trays in the freezer would be super helpful. The bedrooms had blinds on the windows but it was super bright as soon as the sun came up. Some room-darkening curtains would be such a nice upgrade. I spotted an iron but no hair dryer so bring your own. Thank you for hosting us!

Snow day hideaway

We rented Top of Castlewood to enable us to attend my uncle's funeral in St. Louis at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. We planned to spend a few days visiting local attractions and gathering with our family. Despite our best plans, we had the good fortune of being snowed in at the house for a couple of days. The set up is nice, one bedroom with a queen bed, a bath, the kitchen and living area on the main level, two bedrooms, one queen and one with twin beds, and a bath upstairs. Both bathrooms, though a bit small, feature large showers. There is laundry in the basement area of the home as well, which worked out for us after our teens went out to play in the fresh snowfall. Though our intent was not to be housebound, of course, the home was warm, clean, cozy and inviting. We did have the forethought to get some groceries prior to the snowfall, so we were able to cook and eat there. The kitchen has a fair amount of dishes and cookware, however, the cutlery is not plentiful. In fact, there were only three forks for all six of us. We made the best of it, but if you plan to eat in, buy some disposable forks!! I can wholeheartedly recommend Top of Castlewood as a lovely place to stay in a very quiet, private, off the beaten path area. It worked for our group of six for four days without feeling like we were on top of each other. It feels both seclude and close to everything.

Inaccurate listing and host was not a people person!

I’ve stayed in a lot of Vrbo‘s with NO issues! This place was one was one of the worst! We were only looking for a place to stay while my daughter was moving into her new house. The place said it could sleep six, but we found out later that if we had more than two, we would be charged for each person. Any questions for the host that we had were met with sarcasm and rudeness. My son and daughter were going to have to bring their dogs and we found out they were going to charge 100 more for the pet fee to an already expensive place for one night. We felt so unwelcomed and tried to cancel to no avail. When we arrived at the house, the thermostat was set at 63 and it’s in the middle of winter. It took quite a while for the house to warm up. There were no amenities, the place was not very clean and there were large marks on the wall. The checkout time was 9 o’clock, it was 9:09 am and the host sat outside and waited for my son to leave while he was taking pictures of the car for some reason. The place was overpriced, and the host was not very accommodating. I would not recommend this place or any place that he is renting!

Clean, Quiet, and Convenient Rental near City and Parks!

We recently stayed at the rental and I must say that I was thoroughly impressed. The cleanliness of the property was exceptional and it was evident that the hosts took great care to maintain a high level of hygiene. The bedrooms, bathrooms, and common areas were all spotless, and I felt comfortable and at ease during my entire stay. One of the things that stood out to me was how quiet the area was. Despite being in close proximity to the city, the property was situated in a peaceful neighborhood and we were able to enjoy a restful night's sleep without any disturbance. The rental was also very well stocked with all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was equipped with all the necessary appliances and utensils, making meal preparation a breeze. The living room and bedrooms were also furnished with comfortable furniture and ample bedding, ensuring that I had everything I needed to feel at home. The location of the vacation home was perfect for me as it was close to local parks where I enjoyed some outdoor activities during my stay. Additionally, the easy commute into the city made it convenient for me to explore all that the city had to offer. Overall, I would highly recommend this vacation home rental to anyone looking for a clean, quiet, and well-stocked property that is conveniently located to local parks and the city. The hosts were also very accommodating and responsive, making my stay all the more enjoyable.
