Mountainback Condo - Walking Distance to Canyon Lodge

You'll feel right at home at this inviting condo, which is a mere .25 mile walk up to Canyon Lodge! Our Condo #70 is replete with a comfortable rustic interior, and access to a shared pool, BBQ area, and sauna. Mountainback Condos also has individual jacuzzis for each of its nine buildings. The pool and spas are kept warm, clean and inviting.

Inside the condo, you'll have a spacious and homey living area. An open floor plan allows everyone to congregate and relax by the stone hearth. Our kitchen is well stocked with all utensils and equipment needed for cooking meals from simple to elaborate, plus a wet bar, a bar with seating for three, and a comfortable six-person table for sit-down meals. **Please note the fireplace is inoperable.

With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and private washer/dryer, this single-level condo will accommodate up to five guests. There is a large flatscreen tv in the living room and two smaller flat screens in each of the bedrooms. By accessing our wifi, you can stream your favorite shows using your home platforms.

In winter, ski/boarding essentials can be stowed at the front entrance for easy access. With beautiful pine trees and the mountains surrounding you, outdoor recreation is minutes away.

We’re closest to Canyon Lodge, but The Village restaurants and shops are only a 5-minute drive. There's also a shuttle out the front door of Unit #70 that can take you and your bike directly to Main Lodge or the Village. An 8-minute drive will get you to Lake Mary, the first of the Basin Lakes, all of which provide great biking/hiking trails, fishing, paddleboarding, boating, kayaking and swimming in the summer.

While Yosemite National Park is 2 hours away, Highway 395 has many scenic side roads to explore, the June Lake Loop being one of the most beautiful. 25 minutes from our Condo #70, this 16-mile drive on State Route 158 takes you past a half dozen lakes, providing fantastic views of the high mountains surrounding the small valley.

This unit is well kept and clean but a bit out dated. The photos show the mid-70's style feature as they are.Location is good and I'm sure you'll find it to be comfortable and clean just as we did.Most of the windows are missing their screens so you should expect a few mosquitos with your cool, fresh mountain air.

Family Fun

I don’t give Birthday or Christmas gifts to the children in my life once they turn 6. This was part of my grandson’s Christmas gift. We started in Yosemite and finished at this cozy condo in Mammoth Lakes. We took in the eastern Sierras and Mono Lake. A perfect jumping off point for all and a great place to come back to at the end of the day. Communication with the owner was VERY prompt, the accommodations quiet, cozy & safe.

Weekend Snowboard Trip

I recently stayed at the Mountain Back Condo from April 4th through April 6th, 2025, and had an excellent experience. The unit was exactly as described, with all utilities and essentials perfectly set up before my arrival. It’s conveniently located about 0.3 miles from Canyon Lodge, making it an easy walk for skiing or other activities. The condo is also only about 0.7 miles from The Village, which was fantastic for dining and entertainment.Parking was a breeze thanks to the covered, underground garage with direct access to the unit—great for unloading gear without worrying about weather. The community spa, located just steps away from the condo, was wonderful for relaxing in the evenings and fits about four to five people comfortably.Inside, the layout worked perfectly. There are two bedrooms (one with a king bed, the other with a queen), plus a cozy living room with couches—exactly as shown in the photos. Communication with the property manager was outstanding; every inquiry received a prompt and helpful response. Unlike some rentals, there were no over-the-top cleaning requirements at checkout, which made for a hassle-free departure.Overall, I highly recommend this condo for anyone visiting Mammoth Lakes. Its convenient location, comfortable accommodations, and responsive management made for a fantastic stay. I would happily return on my next trip!

Very nice

We really enjoyed this condo and would love to stay here in the future. There was plenty of room, loved the covered parking, washer and dryer and convenient access to the bus stops for the Canyon Lodge. The hot tub was small but has very powerful jets!The only problem ( the reason for 4 starts instead of 5) is that Arlene ( property manager) should have provided better service. The condo has wonderful closet space but has only 5 clothes hangers. Also, each toilet has a plunger but no toilet bowl brushes. When I messaged Arlene about the need for these items, the day after our arrival, she texted that the items would be delivered the Friday before we were to leave during our two week stay. We were able to buy the items in town. As it turned out, Arlene never delivered the items! A minor issue but it was annoying.

Very loud condo

The location and floor plan of this condo are great. That does not make up for the amount of noise that you have to endure with this condo. The walls between condos are very thin and the subflooring above the condo is non existent. You can literally hear every footstep above you as well as any music and conversation. I can deal with some noise in a mammoth rental condo but this is the worst I have ever experienced. Constant thud noise from normal footsteps well into the night made it nearly impossible to sleep. I am very surprised I hadn't read about this in any previous review. This of course is no fault of the owner/host but does reflect the review score. Because of this I would never stay at this condo again.

Disappointing

There was a blizzard at check in. No front door code was sent at confirmation of booking and there was no cell service on the mountain. Thankfully we found WiFi at nearby Starbucks and contacted the host, thankfully she responded and we got the code to enter. She apologized and blamed Vrbo website.After renting and entering we were informed to Not use the fireplace, in mammoth, during a snowstorm. As if that was not one of the main reasons we would rent this place. It was advertised as a working wood burning fireplace. We couldn’t find the heater So I contacted the host. She gave me the housekeepers number and told me to call her. She didn’t answer. Eventually we found the thermostat. Thank goodness…It also advertised being a fully equipped kitchen. I guess that meant they had forks, knives and plates. You want salt n peppe, olive oil or anything essential, go to the store. Of course I get that is not expected. But I’ve rented a cabin 30x’s on this mountain and never been in one that is Completely bare. Thank god they had paper towels lol.On day 2 the internet went out. I didn’t even contact the host. We just sucked it up buttercup knowing this review would eventually be written and we’d never stay here again. What a sh*t show.

Was expecting better

We had booked a short 3 night stay in October to "check out" the property in advance of our planned full month stay in March to really see and ski Mammoth for a month. Unfortunately the condo had a LOT of issues. Maybe this was due to it being shoulder season and it was yet to be "fixed up" and readied for the upcoming winter busy season. The windows were many and a strong positive for this condo, if in fact, you could see out of them. So dirty, we could not. The small deck outside was so rotten (the wooden planks) that we were scared to step on it. Both sinks in the master bathroom did not work, one side the faucet was broken, the other the sink didn't drain well and backed up. Tiles coming off the wall in the master shower with weird nasty stuff growing behind them. The shower faucet also wasn't working properly and only the hand-held option was workable. Many, too many, of the dresser drawers were difficult or impossible to open, broken or misaligned track hardware. Only 4 hangers in the master closed. In the second bedroom the drywall had been cut away to install and upgraded fuse box and not fully replaced, looking unfinished and a gaping hole in the wall. Lamps with switches broken off, heaters that made annoying clicking noise all night....and on and on. So, we were glad we came to check it out and have now cancelled our full month of March booking. Just could not see tolerating all that for an entire month, one 3 night stay was more than we could stomach.

Best VRBO we have stayed at in Mammoth! Very clean. A little noisy at night. Master bathroom needs a little plumbing attention. Tub/shower drain is extremely slow and the sink has a constant drip. Other than that, it was terrific!

Scott and I love the mountains in winter and have brought our daughter, Pru, with us to Mammoth for a decade now. Pru and Scott snowboard and I ski. This year, our 14 year old has outstripped us in skill and speed, but it’s still a blast.

Mammoth in the summer is new for us this year. What a different world summer brings to the Sierras! Fishing, boating, paddleboarding, swimming! Scott and Pru on mtn bikes and me on an electric have tooled the town, they enjoy the dirt slopes.

When we got the opportunity to buy a condo in Mammoth, we knew one thing; we needed to be near Canyon Lift for easy in/out skiing. We looked at many condos in the area, one so close, you could ski from the condo down to the lift! But, we also wanted a home away from home getaway, and this required something special. Mountainback, of all condos, has the nicest layout, the best pool and spa set up and the newest, most well cared for buildings and landscaping. And, we found #70 in good condition, cared for, obviously, by previous owners who love spending time in Mammoth with their family as much as we do. So, we went with a quarter mile walk to Canyon lift in exchange for a large, bright, open layout, great kitchen and views on beautiful quiet property that we want to visit again and again. (We chose well. )
