Newly renovated inside (Spring 2024) the beach house welcomes you with ocean views, just steps from the sand! This is the upstairs apartment (2nd floor, separate entrance) of a classic Maine cottage. It is the second house back from the beach. The unit has newly refurbished hardwood floors, new furniture, an equipped kitchen, and 3 bedrooms. The 7 miles of beach are at your doorstep. Enjoy the views from all the windows and the back deck. It's right next to the beach.

The location is fantastic, literally steps from the sand and we loved the historic character of the house. The only slight annoyance is that sheets and towels aren’t provided, which most places in the area do provide.

We are able to supply linens if requested. We don't supply them because we have learned over the years that guests prefer sleeping in their own sheets. We supply pillows, pillow covers/protectors, quilts and mattress pads.

We'd like to respond to this review. We have recently purchased the house. It has been recently renovated: painted, insulation, electrical system, heating/cooling installation. There are also new appliances. It is bright and breezy throughout. We will continue to update the house. On other platforms where you can rent it, it receives high scores. We also have return visitors on an annual basis. Thanks for considering renting it despite these early reviews. It is worth a stay.

Misleading advertising

Other than the location which was excellent and ease of check in this unit was not at all like the photos and description found on vrbo.

We'd like to thank the guest for the feedback, but at the same time point out that the photos do reflect the rental. What's not in the photos is that we now have central air and other updates. We think the negative feedback might have to do with the fact that the guest broke a bed and didn't report it to us (and then we called her out on that). In any case, we now have had lots of people stay there, renting directly from us or from other platforms like airbnb, and have received very good reviews. We're sorry that this one is not more positive. It's a great place to stay. We stay there often ourselves.

Poor cleanliness, could be a great place

Within the first hour of arriving to our rental home, the police were on our porch looking for the owners of the building because there was trash left on the curb that would wait there for 6 days before being picked up. We spent the first 3 hours cleaning up sand in the living room, old food on the kitchen table (spaghetti sauce & mustard), and the shower. There were cherry stems all throughout the building on the floors and food on the kitchen walls. The property manager I had spoke with told me we were the second family to stay this year, so I’m almost certain there was no cleaning done between stays. We were told to bring our own towels and sheets. When we went to put sheets on the bed, they were stains all over the mattresses. Once we cleaned the place up, it was not terrible. Good spot, close to the beach.

We just wanted to respond to this review because at the time we had only just bought the house. Meanwhile we have installed a new stove. The large bedroom upstairs now has a new queen-sized bed and mattress. (The other mattresses we think are good.) The entire house has been repainted as well as insulated. There is now central air throughout, warm and cold. There's new porch siding upstairs. We're still doing updates in the house as a whole, but we think it's fair to say that it's a really nice place to stay. Last Summer and Autumn, we also have had happy guests. We now have had winter tenants who are also really happy. So that's the update!

Union Ave is a quiet road with beautiful beach houses, a surf school, and a seafood snack bar. The best sandwich place in town is within walking distance up the street and other shops, restaurants, and a laundromat are around the corner. It is a 10-minute walk to the pier of Old Orchard Beach. The quaint village of Ocean Park, with its ice cream parlor, shuffleboard, and tennis courts, is also a short stroll. It is a 20-minute drive to Portland, with its many restaurants, art and culture, and the Maine Mall. You can walk to the Amtrak station in Old Orchard Beach where the Downeaster stops regularly from mid-May to September, and head to Portland, Freeport, or Boston. The train also stops year-round at the Amtrak station in Saco, which is a 10-minute drive from the house. In the off-season, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of Old Orchard Beach and its beautiful coastline. It is a 20-minute drive to the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus and 25 minutes to the University of Southern Maine.
