The name is shorthand for "North of Little Italy" among New Yorkers, who love this area for its dynamic character and fantastic shopping scene. Martin Scorsese grew up in Nolita, and it has also been home base for celebrities as diverse as Iman, Moby, and Gabriel Byrne. There is a diverse dining scene in the neighborhood, as well as plenty of bars and clubs. Nolita is served by several subway lines and bus routes, making it easy to get anywhere in the city from your new home.
