Cozy Mountaintop Retreat

Stay in a cozy log cabin located on Shaffer Mountain, a perfect retreat from a busy life. In Bedford County this is located on a flyway for migrating birds. The Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society (APAS) has a Hawkwatch site nearby that is open to visitors during migration

The cabin has an open plan downstairs with a great room, kitchen and view of Bedford County plus a quiet bedroom with a full bed; a small loft has twin beds.

The kitchen includes a stove, microwave plus dishes and cookware.
There is a small sofa and fireplace in main room as well as a bathroom with shower on the main floor. Internet with Netflix and Youtube TV is available. (streaming can be touchy with the remote location)

This location is close to the town of Bedford, local antique shops, the Allegheny Front Hawkwatch as noted and miles of hiking trails. There is also a fire pit at the cabin for relaxing in the evening

Spectacular View!

Kim, we absolutely loved your cozy cabin and its ever-changing, spellbinding view. We spotted so much wildlife—our first glimpse of a partially white deer, turtles along the road, and birds serenading us daily. The summer garden, lush with ferns, adds a magical touch to the cabin's charm. We can’t wait to return and experience the beauty of a different season.

Perfect getaway

My husband and I had a lovely stay. The gorgeous view alone would have been plenty, but the entire place was cozy, well-furnished, comfortable, clean, charming, and quiet. Had a great time trying to spot birds in the trees with kindly provided binoculars—which was just the kind of low-key activity we were looking for. It exceeded our expectations.

The Cabin Exceeded Expectations. We Enjoyed Our Guests Stopping By Each Day.Our Female Cardinal, Who Loved Pecking A Our Car Side Mirrors And Windows Each Morning And The Back Deck Window Of The Cabin Seeing Her Reflection. The 3 Bumble Bees Who Visited Us On The Back Deck Each Day. The Wild Turkey Walking Through The Yard On Occasion. The Woodpecker Enjoys His Feast Of Trees, And Of Course The Baby Snapping Turtle We Found Trying To Cross The Road, And Wanted Absolutely No Help From Anyone Trying To Get Him To Safety.Linda Loved Her Stay, It Made For A Wonderful Few Days Away And Said The Worst Part Was Leaving.Thank You Again For Allowing Us To Stay.Very Much Appreciated!

Cabin on the Front

Gathered to watch the harvest moon and partial eclipse, but were fogged in. We still enjoyed the experience, the cabin is small, well equipped, cozy. Nice outdoor spaces.

Excellent Stay

Very nice cabin and amazing view. It was a bit difficult to find initially but follow the directions from owner exactly. My son and I enjoyed Mother's Day in and around New Paris.

Amazing views!

This place has amazing views and privacy, worth the drive up the mountain! It's not too far from parks and the town of Bedford. This place is very serene, quiet and relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay and the dogs had a great time too!

Much too much.

This place is fantastic. The location and view can't be beat. The solitude and peacefulness are more than one could hope for. Out golden retriever, Jake, loved the woods and the freedom as he and Kath hiked the trails. Would love to see this again with the fall foliage.

Zu Gast bei Kim Moore

My name is Kim, and I am a high school principal. I enjoy spending my free time with my family and pets. My husband Bo, is a musician, professor and radio personality. I have 2 children, Tucker and Sally. We also have 3 dogs- Rosie, Ivy and Vanna and 2 cats, Jennifer and Carlos. Vanna, our Golden Retriever is actually a Facility Service Dog. She goes to work with me every day and spends the day with our students.

I grew up spending time on my parents farm which really promoted my love of nature. My parents started the Allegheny chapter of the Audubon Society and the Allegheny Front Hawk watch, which is open to visitors and about 1/2 hour from the cabin. I consider the cabin a perfect mixture of the farm and the hawk watch, and it is a very special place.
