Nestled behind the main house, the two bedroom Ohana cottage comes with a carport, fully equipped kitchen and its own lanai with an ocean view.

The Ohana cottage has one room with a king-size bed, one room with a queen-size bed, and a queen-size pull-out couch in the living room. The Ohana will comfortably accommodate five people. Other amenities include cable television, DVD and CD player, games, washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchen, microwave and barbecue grill. The Ohana also features wireless internet connection. Children of all ages are welcome. Kitchen in main house is not shared.

Welcoming hosts.

Decently located for access to various sites. The bungalow was comfortable enough, but felt tight for a family of 4 and needs some updates. There was barely any space for putting clothing away. And the kitchen lacks some essentials (serving bowls, for ex.), but also felt crowded. Erich and Susie were very nice and welcoming. They bought the place a year ago and perhaps are instituting some upgrades (the couch a previous user complained about has since been upgraded with a comfortably new sleeper). But more upgrades could be made (new porch furniture would be great).

Aloha Carey! Thank you for the honest review and I am glad you enjoyed the Ohana Cottage (bungalow). The cottage is 750 SF and is advertised as that. Sorry you felt crowded and tight. Both bedrooms do have full sized closets with shelving for clothes so guests can unpack. And you are correct, we are updating the cottage. Its difficult to get patio furniture this time of year on the island and it is a top priority for us when we can get it without paying double for shipping. That old plastic table has got to go! LOL. Looks like the mixing bowl set got misplaced and we will do an inventory in the kitchen so, thank you for the heads up. Last month we added the beautiful handmade chocolate mango kitchen table and chairs, a comfortable sofa sleeper, new hawaii themed pictures, new bedside lamps, new Hawaiian bedspreads and sheets, put a new fresh coat of paint on the lanai, updated the flower beds and added the hardwood patio chairs and cushions. The kitchen has new compact florescent lighting that is super bright, and most of the utensils are new.

Great Place. Great Location

This property was exactly what we were looking for. Great location: short walk to the ocean, 1 hour to the volcano, 1 hour to our Zipline. Great Place: hosts were very friendly and accommodating, free light breakfast in the morning on the deck overlooking the ocean. Very clean. We will stay here again!

Beautiful and Quiet

Thank you Erich and Susie for a beautiful weekend stay. We had a great time! The Jungle Cottage was perfect. It was set back on the property just enough for us to have privacy-peace and quiet- yet could still have fun-laughing, joking, being a little noisy. The continental breakfasts were perfectly delicious, and the pool was clean, refreshing, and fun! (We actually spent four hours just swimming). We wished we could have stayed longer and didn't want to leave; w will definitely come back. My one suggestion for you would be to include in your advertisement beautiful shots of the morning sunrises that your quests could view early in the morning (since you can't do sunsets) Thank you again for the great weekend, The Coconut Hat Holoholo Crew

Near Volcano Natl Park.

The outdoor deck, grounds and covered parking were very nice. It was more like camping than a comfortable stay however. The original couches and cushions from 30 years ago (or more) are still there with holes etc. Decor has not been updated in 30-40 years. We found more than five bugs (looked like roaches) scurrying on countertops. Ledges above doors never dusted and we found this out because my daughter locked bedroom door and could not get out for an hour! Drain in tub is very slow. Breakfast consisted of bagels, fruit and juice, no protein. Good coffee and nice water cooler for guest use. Owners are super friendly and communicative. but I was so uncomfortable sleeping on old mattresses and sitting on couches that I had to put a sheet over the couch, My flight was delayed and we were not able to stay the first night but $ not refunded. Nice people, but couch is not sleepable if you have another person.

We enjoyed Marty and her kids. She was friendly and interesting. Marty did inform us about possible roaches and we got our professional exterminator out as soon as she left. They were not roaches... rather soldier beetles. Here in the jungle if you leave the screen door open, bugs can get in. We do understand about the old couches (15 years old) and have them on order from the mainland. We just reopened after purchasing Ala Kai BnB and are having a difficult time getting all our furniture orders filled with COVID delays and shipping problems. Sadly Marti's daughter locked herself in the bedroom and the door lock got stuck. The lock has been replaced. After an inspection of the tub drain, it appears that the drain lever was not open and was functional. We are very proactive about our guests / maintenance and would love Marti and family to come back for another visit. Erich and Suzy

Peaceful staycation

This B&B was an amazing find! I opted out of the breakfast part because we were staying in the ‘ohana house (that’s nestled in the back of the main house) and has its own kitchen. My kids were still doing online classes and the wifi held with no glitches! Erich and Suzy were great hosts! I would highly recommend!! They also have 2 other options if you’re not traveling with a family. MAHALO!

Suzy is a retired teachers aid who spent many years supporting kids K though 3rd grade. She spends her time exploring the Islands, snorkeling and enjoying the islands rain forests. She is well known for her wonderful breakfasts at the B&B. Erich is a retired real estate investor who specialized in rehabilitating commercial property. He spends his time maintaining the B&B, SCUBA diving, bike riding and reading.

Slash, the B&B tuxedo cat, is the official greeter cat and butler. He loves greeting our guests and welcoming them to our rain forest home and watching the waves break from the lanai.

The minute we saw Ala Kai B&B we knew it was our dream home. It is located in an amazing rain forest with tropical gardens across from the street from the ocean. The main home has a wrap around lanai (porch) that is ideal for social gatherings where we can watch whales, dolphins and turtles. The Ohana Cottage is quiet, private and located in a manicured garden.
