Love Lake Darling Resort!

We were looking for a beautiful place to stay for a low key Bachelorette weekend that offered accommodations right on a lake, clean and updated lodging, and amenities that included the option for swimming… Lake Darling Resort offered all of this and more! Close proximity to downtown for entertainment and food. Highly recommend this place and can’t wait to come back with my family!

Beautiful resort

The place was amazing from day one. Very clean, nice quality of kitchen supplies. Resort is right on the lake, kids loved the arcade and swimming pool was amazing. Very close to many different attractions. Weather was poor but the property was big enough that we all stayed comfortably without feeling crammed. Highly would recommend and cannot wait to come back.

Weekend Winter Getaway

We were a last minute booking to have a nice place for 4 kids and 6 adults with visiting family coming periodically - this space was PERFECT for what we needed. The property is well maintained, clean and many things to do for all ages. The kids enjoyed the boot hockey and game room. We stayed in Villa 15 and loved how close it was so the kids didn't have to go far to have fun (and still be within visual distance). Great experience and would love to return again.

Wonderful place

The property manager was awesome to work with. He was very accommodating and friendly. The indoor pool and hot tub were clean and well maintained. There were pool towel provided. The kids loved the game room. Dave had an area on the ice cleared off for hockey. They even had hockey sticks. The cabins had everything we needed and were clean and well maintained. It was a wonderful weekend stay!

Birthday Weekend

We came for a friend's 30th birthday weekend and had a great time. There were five of us plus a 1 year old and there was more than enough room for everyone, especially in the common areas such as the living room and dining area, which was great for playing games. We also loved how close the resort is to downtown Alexandria as well as Carlos Creek Winery and the Arrowwood resort, where we went for a spa day. Zero complaints. We hope to book again in the summer so that we can enjoy more of the outdoor area, but the clubhouse was greatly appreciated for the colder weather.

Our family enjoyed our fall vacation at Lake Rainy Resort! The town home was clean and well stocked. Nice indoor pool and hot tub. It was a pleasant surprise with a free game room. Really helpful to have a washer and dryer in the unit!

Awesome getaway

We had a fall-time gathering of siblings and spouses for a couple of nights thoroughly enjoyed our time. The villa was spacious for sleeping as well as areas for cooking, eating, and socializing. The location on the lake is beautiful. We enjoyed kayaking, walks, games, and evening fires. Would love to return in the summer to make even better use of the lake. Excellent communication with the VRBO contact as well as the onsite management!

It was halfway point for our families. It was a great location, the cabin was beautiful!

Wonderful house, fully equipped with anything you would need. Great Lake views. Easy to get to town for great restaurants and groceries. Only concern is proximity to other houses. They are twin homes versus stand alone with limited privacy.

Great weekend getaway for our family

We had a great time here with our family. There was plenty of space for 6 adults and 3 children under 3. We enjoyed the pool and game room as it was a cold Minnesota weekend. We want to return in the summer! Everyone was so kind and helpful.

What started as a father-son idea in 2016 has now blossomed into an amazing family adventure. Ted & Sue (the parents) and David (the middle kid) & Chelsey (his wife) are the proud owners and operators of Lake Darling Resort. Although we all have other full-time jobs you will find us all out there throughout the week - along with our wonderful team that keeps does the heavy lifting. Ted will be getting his hands dirty building or fixing something (he is a builder), Sue will be working in the office, cleaning or organizing something (she is our pinch hitter), David will be talking to someone or trying to look busy (he is the business guy), and Chelsey will be carrying or chasing around the newest addition to the family (Emilia).

We purchased Viking Trail Resort in early 2017 - which in its day was a wonderful family lake resort that dates back to the 1930's. It had 14 forest green cabins with neat interior wood paneling, and stoves that were older than all of us. Although they were in tough shape, we still had many guests that came back every year - some that were celebrating their 35th year in a row our first year.

Over the last few years we have rebuilt the entire property and re-named it Lake Darling Resort. In 2021, we will have 18 lake villas and a Clubhouse with an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and game room. It's wonderful to see many of those same families that had been coming for so many years continue to come to Lake Darling Resort, and many other families that are now returning to the property that had stayed years or decades ago.

Lake Darling Resort is located on the Alexandria Chain-of-Lakes, which connects 11 lakes together. It's 300 yards from the Lakes Area Trail - which is a 55-mile walking and biking trail in the Summer, and a snowmobile trail in the Winter. There are two beautiful, sandy beaches, a full marina with docks, pontoons, boats, paddle boats, paddle boards, kayaks, canoes, lily pads and other fun toys. Nearby, there are many golf courses, 2 breweries, 2 distilleries, a winery, lots of restaurants and bars, a waterpark, shops, salons and many other local attractions.
