Godwin Beach, near Sandstone Point, holds deep cultural significance. The area contains some of the region’s largest Aboriginal shell middens—vast deposits of oyster and other shells—reflecting thousands of years of coastal living.

Nearby Pumicestone Passage once supported a thriving 19th-century oyster industry supplying Brisbane. Before regulations began in 1863, oyster shells were extensively harvested and burned for lime, leaving behind an important chapter of local history.
