Nestled 100kms or 1-hour 20mins drive east of Adelaide on the Purnong Road, Mannum sits an historic stone cottage overlooking the almighty River Murray.
Greg and Merrilyn purchased this property in August, 2023 and they are continuing to restore the old limestone cottage, outside buildings and its surrounds all built in the beginning years of the SA colony (1850's) from local stone. They wish to share the river views and surrounds with you.
Nori Wai offers the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, whether you are here to unwind, explore the tranquillity of the river and its surrounds or enjoy the stunning ridge top walks. The township of Mannum is steeped in history of the paddle steamer era. Did you know Mannum is the birthplace of Australia’s motor car- the steam driven Shearer, with the world’s first differential?
The stone cottage is currently offering two large bedrooms with serene views of the river. Each room has a ceiling fan, Queen size bed, wardrobe/drawers for clothing.
A long passage leads into the living area which has an open fireplace, wall heater and ceiling fan & TV. The kitchen features an historic old wood stove which is still functional, reminiscent of the past pioneer era when this building was built. Currently there is an electric stove, microwave, kettle/ toaster. Please note there is no dishwasher. There is a large wooden table seating up to 6 people.
The bathroom with toilet and shower is semi-attached. If you are older and need the comfort of an indoor bathroom/toilet this may not be for you. There is a laundry with a washing machine.
Seating on the front verandah offers magnificent views of the river and beyond.
There is on-site parking next to cottage.
Please note this property may not be suitable for small children because it is unfenced and has uneven ground. You will need solid footwear for some of the walks.
If you are prepared to “rough it” a little, then we warmly welcome you to share our life experiences. We are laid back, friendly and easy!
Things to do:
• Stroll down to the river and enjoy its tranquillity. Watch graceful pelicans feed on fish, the many black swans sail by, ducks diving, cormorants nesting, eagles and hawks swooping. You may even see a turtle or two!
• Or be more adventurous and take one of the many ridgetop walks and enjoy stunning views of the river and the township of Mannum. You may even see an echidna!
• Star gaze at night! When the skies are clear the stars are amazing because we have such low light pollution.
• Sit down by the river and watch the beautiful sunsets and sunrises.
• Listen to the sounds of the many bird species we have in our area
• See if you can spot a kangaroo or two on the ridgetops.
• Take a day trip downstream on the PW Mayflower or PS Marion. Step back in time as you venture onto the woodfired vessels from yesteryear.
• Enjoy a walk down the main street of Mannum. Visit its many shops especially the op shops, Maritime Museum and the Hospital Auxiliary shop, a must for beautiful homemade jams and chutneys!
• You must visit the German-inspired Randell Street Bakery. It serves great coffee, artisan bread and other baked goodies.
• Join the community the first Saturday of every month for their local market
• Take your kayak out onto the river for a relaxing paddle amongst the reeds and birdlife.
• Throw in a yabby net, in the hope of getting a feed!
• Or buy a meal at our community club and help the township of Mannum.
• Take a car ride around the new Marina or cross the river on the punt to Bow Hill. Enjoy a coffee at the local store and experience a different view of the river.
