River Ranch Mudgees Unique Rural Escape
A stylish country farmhouse where rustic charm meets modern comfort. Nestled in the hills of Riverlea, only 8 minutes from the closest cellar door and 15 minutes to Mudgee, the Ranch offers a peaceful escape with a spacious kitchen, firepit, private river access and friendly alpacas. We fell in love with its stillness, the wide skies and the quiet magic of the river, and we are proud to share it with guests who seek the same calm and connection.
Inside the Ranch
Step into a thoughtfully restored country home filled with antique furniture, reclaimed timber and natural textures. The open plan living area connects to a generous farmhouse kitchen designed for shared meals and relaxed conversation. A cosy loft retreat with TV and games provides the perfect nook for movie nights or quiet downtime.
Outdoors and Activities
Life moves gently here. Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck as kookaburras call from the trees and the paddocks turn gold with the rising sun. Feed the alpacas, picnic or fish by the river, or explore nearby cellar doors and boutiques. Play a round of pool, visit Windamere Dam or simply unwind around the fire pit under festoon lights as the stars appear. Guests often say their favourite moment is sunrise on the deck as the mist lifts over the river and the valley becomes still.
The Setting
Set along the Cudgegong River and surrounded by open paddocks and native bushland, the Ranch offers a peaceful backdrop filled with Australian wildlife. Kangaroos graze at dusk, wombats wander near the riverbanks, and wild goats move through the hills. The final five minutes of your drive follow a well-maintained dirt road suitable for 2WD vehicles. There is flat parking for up to four cars. While mobile reception may be limited, WiFi calling works reliably around the house.
Comfort and Details
Sleeps eight guests across four bedrooms with three queen beds and two singles
1.5 bathrooms with premium amenities
Farmhouse kitchen with modern appliances
Outdoor fire pit and BBQ area (seasonal use)
Pool table, board games and Starlink WiFi
Loft retreat with TV and comfortable lounge
Professionally managed and impeccably cleaned between guests
Pet-friendly and family-friendly setup
Families and Pets
Families love the sense of space and simplicity at the Ranch. A porta-cot, high chair and rollaway bed are available on request. Cot linen is available for $15, and the rollaway setup for $30. Well-behaved dogs are welcome with approval and an additional cleaning fee. Please add the number of pets you're travelling with and let us know about your furry friend at the time of booking so we can assess if the space is suitable for them. The property offers wide open areas to explore, but it is not fully fenced, and wildlife is frequent, so pets must be supervised.
Planning something special? Enhance your stay with curated experiences and optional add-ons, including wine tours, private chefs, catering, in-home yoga, private transport, exclusive discounts with select local providers and more! Explore what’s available on our website, and let us know at the time of booking if you’d like us to help organise anything for your stay.
You will have the entire farm stay to yourself. Please make yourself at home! There are two river access points leading to your own stretch of private river frontage.
River Ranch sits on the Sydney side of Mudgee in a peaceful pocket of Riverlea, surrounded by rolling hills, open paddocks and native wildlife. The final five minutes of your drive follow a well-maintained dirt road before reaching the Ranch, where wombats, kangaroos and vibrant birdlife are part of the scenery.
Nearby, enjoy scenic tastings at Skimstone and Logan Wines or join a local tour to explore Mudgee’s acclaimed cellar doors, restaurants and cafés—just 15 minutes away. Windamere Dam (10 minutes) is perfect for swimming or boating, while Gulgong’s heritage village (25 minutes) and Mudgee Observatory (20 minutes) offer great day trips.
Visit local markets, walk bush trails, browse the Mudgee Museum, or sample honey and regional produce at Mudgee Honey Haven before returning to the Ranch’s stillness and wide country skies.
Due to local regulations, we can happily host you for up to 90 nights. Any bookings that exceed this duration will be cancelled by Vrbo.
Please note a $100 charge applies for guests bringing pets.
