Broken Dream (5 stars for the scenery… not much else). The lake, waterfront, swimming, and kayaks were excellent.Unfortunately, the cottage itself feels neglected. There are exposed nails at head height, peeling paint, weathered wood, and splinters throughout the property. The wooden rowboat was so deteriorated we didn’t feel safe using it, though the metal boat appeared much better.Communication was frustrating. We didn’t receive check-in instructions at all. We had to request the address (which is confusing as the street was renamed), and nowhere did it clearly state guests needed to bring their own sheets, towels and drinking water. The host showed up after check in time without announcing himself. We ended up driving an extra hour each way to Walmart to buy essentials we would have packed if we’d known. Guests are expected to leave the cottage spotless (down to scrubbing the toilet and sink), yet the property appears to have gone years without good maintenance and good cleaning . Blinds barely open, kitchen door net barely works, and many fixtures feel worn or broken. The disappointing part is that these issues are fixable. With basic maintenance, fresh paint, repaired wood, removed exposed nails, and updated fixtures, this could be an outstanding rental because the location is beautiful.Instead, it feels like maintenance has been deferred for years. Come for the lake and scenery, but be prepared for an undermaintained cottage that doesn’t live up to its setting.
