Lovely cottage, so nearly five stars.
We loved the cottage and it's position in the village, split over three floors, the accommodation and furnishing were of a high quality and worth the fee for the week we spent there. On arrival, the place was boiling hot, not just due to the July heatwave, but the always-on AGA cooker.. Windows were flung open and stayed that way all week. The neighbours were very friendly which is a relief as they get a new neighbours moving in/out on a weekly basis, they must be used to it by now! Can recommend the village pub for food and beer, also it's worth going to Chipping Campden for the array of good restaurants. There were downsides, mostly due to a lack of upkeep and cleaning. It was unsurprising that few people filled in the guest book, which may be like us, because the previous issues raised there had not been attended to. The main issues were the lack of cleanliness; not much above waist height has been dusted, and spiders and their webs are everywhere. Thick dust in the bathroom, mould growing in the terrazzo shower tiles, leaky door, the sink hot tap is loose as it turns the wrong way (its a cold tap valve with a hot tap handle). Many light bulbs didn't work, so we had to swap around the few spares that were provided to get adequate lighting. The smart Roberts radio in the kitchen didn't work, the salad spinner is broken, the referred to in the welcome book 'How to cook on an AGA' book is missing. the recycling regime and availability of blue/white bags needs resolving (Monday is Bin day BTW - all bins). One of the kitchen wall outlets were faulty, haphazard extension leads, untidy cables are everywhere. There's nothing to sharpen a knife in the kitchen, so chopping is hazardous. Finally, nearly every window opener is loose/falling off, I had to retrieve dislodged screws from the window cill. As a landlord myself, I would recommend that the owners need to spend a couple of weeks living there and rectify the issues, then it would be perfect again!
Thank you for your review, we are glad to hear you loved the cottage and the surrounding area.
Being the management company for this cottage, we are responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep, for which we strive to make sure the cottage is at its best for all guests.
We visited the cottage a couple of days before your check in date to complete the turnaround and to check everything was working. As the guests before you had let us know that a couple of the bulbs were not working during their stay, we made sure we replaced all the faulty bulbs and did a sweep around the whole property to make sure all the lights were working. I am sorry to hear that on this occasion, some of the bulbs must have blown in the meantime, I can only apologise for this.
While at the property, we did make sure to check for cobwebs, as with this extreme heat, we have been experiencing that the spiders are rife in these old cottages, and can be difficult to keep on top of, but I can assure you, we did make sure the property was cobweb free before your stay.
We have been back to the cottage and made sure the bathroom has been cleaned, in these old cottages, we do find that dust does settle extremely quickly, so although we completed a thorough clean before your stay, some dust could have settled. We have scrapped back the silicone in the bathroom, so there is not any mould marks, and the leaky door has been fixed by sliding the seal across, as it had moved. The plumber has assured us that the taps are working fine, they turn opposite directions and the water temperatures are correct.
We will make sure we mend the radio in the kitchen and we will also replace the salad spinner, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will make sure there is a manual for the AGA at the cottage for future guests. Unfortunately, it seems that on this occasion the manual has been mislaid, as we have always had one at the property.
We have made sure that there are new white and blue bags for the recycling, so sorry, these can get muddled up with other neighbours. We have also fixed the wall unit in the kitchen and have checked all the windows. As the window units were made specifically for this cottage, they might appear loose, however, this is how they are made, they are perfectly fine, but thank you for your concern.
We will use this review to further improve the cottage for future guests
Great property, great location, comfortable stay
We loved this place. It’s in a great location for visiting local attractions. It feels homely and inviting. We loved the views, especially from the lovely living room and bathroom.
The only downsides were that it’s split over three levels so the bathroom is on a different level to the bedroom, but it wasn’t a huge issue. Also, more garden furniture would be nice so it’s more comfortable to eat/have a drink outside and enjoy the view.
Thank you for your comments, we also love the views. We have included details about layout of this property in the description on the website as it is an old cottage with lovely bedrooms on the top floor. There is an outdoor table, bench and two deck chairs which are kept in the laundry room so that guests can help themselves. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Quaint End and hope that you will return.
Nice comfortable house the perfect location to explore the cotswold.
