We are a family of 4 and stayed here in order to explore the WW1 battlefields of the Somme area (and a day trip to Ypres for the same reason).
The cottage is well kept and perfect as a base to explore the local area. Francine and Jean-Claude were lovely hosts and the welcoming custard tart was delicious. The cottage was lovely and clean. You have to climb the metal steps you see on the picture and, as it is a loft conversion, there are lots of low ceilings. As well as trying to avoid bumping your head, the sloping ceilings can make the kitchen units difficult to use (the cooker / oven and sink are not affected by this). There is a private courtyard which is lovely but not used by us given we were there in the Autumn.
It is situated approx 30 minutes from Albert, about 50 minutes from Peronne and 90 minutes from Ypres. The main Somme battlefields of Beaumont-Hamel, Lochnagar, Thiepval and Longueval are all within 25 minutes of the cottage.
It is a working farm and Francine runs a local farm produce shop; if you get chance, we would recommend trying some of the produce here as it is very good. The closest supermarkets are in Arras (25 minutes) and Albert and there is a boulangerie in the village of Bienvillers-au-Bois just 5 minutes drive away. Most of the surrounding villages have some shops but we rarely saw them open as we passed through.
We would recommend this as a good base to tour the local area.
