Windward House ist für den anspruchsvollen Reisenden konzipiert. Hier trifft sich Altes auf Neues, ein Ort, an dem Sie sich entspannen, neue Energie tanken, erfrischen, Romantik erleben oder Ihr College-Leben neu erleben können. Diese Ferienwohnung im Shenandoah Valley ist auf Menschen zugeschnitten, die im Urlaub gerne etwas "hip" sind. Der Eigentümer (ein Architekt) hat den Raum renoviert, um die Ästhetik der Mid-Century Modern mit einer vielseitigen und ländlichen Berghütte zu kombinieren. Die Atmosphäre dieses einzigartigen Ferienhauses ist warm und entspannend, aber mit einem stromlinienförmigen Gefühl. In der Nähe von Lexington und Staunton (eigentlich etwa auf halbem Weg zwischen den beiden Städten) verfügt dieser besondere Ort nur über zwei Schlafzimmer (ein Queen-Size-Bett, ein Doppelzimmer), zwei Vollbäder und für 4 Erwachsene. Windward House ist keine Hand in Hand, mit Hand-me-Down-Sachen.

Der Ort wurde mit dem Ziel des Besuchers gestaltet und eingerichtet, einschließlich Self-Check-In, Privatsphäre, originaler Kunst, einer modernen, voll ausgestatteten Küche (einschließlich Samsung-Gasherd und Keurig-Kaffeemaschine mit Kaffee oder Tee am Morgen), bequemen Betten, (Bett- und Badwäsche, Seifen und Shampoo zur Verfügung gestellt) Kostenloses WLAN, Apple TV mit Direct TV Now, eine "Chill Time" -Bar, ein großes Achterdeck, eine schöne Veranda mit herrlichem Blick auf die Berge - alles auf sieben Privatgrundstücken.

A Great Spot

The property is the nicest VRBO we’ve encountered. The surroundings are quiet and peaceful. The owners have provided everything one might need, from phone chargers to reading glasses. This was the perfect spot from which to explore Natural Bridge State Park and Lexington.

Serene spot in the valley

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable, well decorated with plenty of amenities, the view was excellent, and the 4 footed neigh-bors were a delight. Comfy bed, lots of space and privacy... an excellent hidden gem in the countryside. Night time provided an impressive opportunity to star gaze. Highly recommended for a chance to getaway and reset for a few days.

This is our third time staying at Windward House and it continues to be the most outstanding, quiet, comfortable, charming, and personal stays. Dee and Michael make sure your stay is perfect with a beautiful, well-stocked, and idyllic setting. There are personal touches throughout the property and they make sure you feel like a welcomed friend rather than a tenant (this is also aided by the furry welcoming committee Cody, Jack, and LoveBug). No matter the time of year, the weather, or if you want to explore the VA countryside or just cocoon - you will love this place and dream about when you can come back. I give this place as many stars as you can see on a clear night from the front porch (which is decidedly more than 5).

AWESOME!

We had a great long weekend at the Windward House. Dee and Michael have done a wonderful job of making you feel right at home. It has everything you need and so clean.There are plenty of restaurants in Staunton and Lexington. Enjoyed watching the cows and deer roam the fields and feeding Cody, Jack, and Love Bug carrots. Above and Beyond my expectations

This property is wonderful. I spent my birthday weekend here with my partner and my puppy. The house and property are well designed and immaculately clean. Even better than the photos. I am usually skeptical of short term vacation listings, as I have been burned by misleading ones. I was thrilled to find this property was exactly as described by other reviewers. Absolutely perfect

I cannot recommend this property enough. If I could rate it 6 stars, I would. Every detail is so thoughtful. The property is immaculate but also welcoming and cozy. The view of the mountains and rolling hills is breathtaking. Dee was absolutely lovely and accommodating. You can tell she and Michael take great pride in the property. And of course, our welcome committee Jack, Love Bug, and Cody made our arrival that much more perfect. We will be back in the Fall and likely return customers for years to come.

Windward Perfect in Every Way

The hone was everything we wanted. It has history, woods in back, with deer in am, peaceful and quiet , stunning farm land around the home, and amazing view of farmland with mountains from front porch. The host had welcome gifts for us and our dog. The place was stocked well and immaculate. Our dog enjoyed the yard and eventually got comfortable with the donkeys Love bug and Jack and the horse. We stayed at 6 VRBO places and this was by far the best. We did hiking and visited Staunton . Lexington and Charlottesville. Toured Monticello, saw VMI, and Cemetary where Jackson buried.We will definitely be back!!

Perfection!

This lovely home would be wonderful enough just because of its beautiful design and decorations, gorgeous location, and transcendent views. But what moves it to sheer perfection is the thoughtfulness of the owners, who have taken care of every little detail to ensure the place is warm, inviting, relaxing, and fun. Everywhere we turned, there seemed to be exactly what we needed, from the ideal lighting, to the easy fire logs, to all the right kitchen tools, to the clear explanatory notes and instructions. They have thought of everything. We came here to spend a quiet weekend relaxing and reading, and we could not have enjoyed ourselves more. We’ll be back!

Gorgeous Virginia gateway

It took less than a year , we rented again this splendid property for an extended weekend gateway. We were not disappointed. The owner, very nice people, thought about everything , nothing was missing. We had extra surprises from the fruit basket to individual name tags. We really felt relax and welcome. The view didn't change of course: rolling hills, horses and cows. I could spend hours watching them from a great distance. The night show was as surprising as the day light view. Hundreds of lighting bugs in the trees, surprised us. The constant light breeze spared us from the heat wave and from any unwanted insects . No need to apply insect repellent or UV cream here, there is always a light breeze and some shadow around the house. The house is as cosy as the view is gorgeous. We slept so well, I never had this experience in a 5 stars resort. We will come back again

Loved it so much we came back for a second trip in 2019

Second time renting the Windward House because we loved the first visit so much! Dee takes such good care of us when we visit, even having emergency flashlights and water available in case of a power outage during a nasty storm. Thankfully we didn't need it, but that is just how thoughtful the owners of the house are! We feel right at home at the Windward House, and even our dog enjoyed all of his usual comforts of home. We arrived this time to find a note saying "welcome back" instead of just "welcome" like the first time. It is just the little attention to detail things like that that made the house so welcoming. Tastefully placed notes of where to find extra items, even having extra toiletries in case you forgot something, comfortable beds, and a well equipped kitchen! It is all simply perfect! We look forward to our future visits because we have found a new, peaceful oasis in Lexington/Staunton area. Lovely wineries and breweries, great food, beautiful views, and close enough to anything you need but secluded enough to enjoy the sounds of nature! We will certainly be visiting again! Thanks for the wonderful stay!

As good as it gets!

This is the best home we have ever stayed at, by a mile. Here are my top 10 things I loved about this home - 1. amazing, breathtaking views 2. great front porch with comfortable, cushioned chairs, 3. huge master bedroom with a very comfortable bed and even different pillows to choose from! 4. Kitchen that has EVERYTHING and more 5. dog crates so we didn’t have to bring ours (genius idea!), 6. so many little personal touches like a basket full of dog toys/supplies with our dogs names written on the front 😊 7. super sweet donkeys and a horse right next to the house (don’t forget to feed them cookies) 8. 10-15 min from at least two lovely wineries. 9. Bluetooth speaker in the kitchen (nice touch!) and 10. the personalized Windward house print that you’ll find on the shower curtain! know I’m probably leaving out a lot , but seriously, this place is homier than my own home - we fell in love and we will be back! Bravo!!

The perfect couples agrotourism get-away

We came to the Windward house with high expectations from the pictures, and our expectations were surpassed. The lovely house has an idyllic setting that must be experienced in person to truly appreciate. We arrived at the last few minutes of twilight, and the final rays of the Sun foretold the beauty that we would behold during our stay. The location is peaceful and you can walk around barefoot on the impeccable lawn/grass down to the stables to greet the three lovely neighbors: Cody, Jack, and Lovebug (a horse and two donkeys). While the location can provide you with serenity as you sip coffee on the front porch and watch the rolling hills (which can be done for hours), you are less than 10 minutes from Rockbridge vineyard/brewery, about 15 minutes from Devils' Backbone brewery, and 20 minutes from Lexington. While the scenery is beautiful, the house itself is worth the trip; it is beautifully appointed with sublime aesthetics. I would highly recommend this to any couple looking for an idyllic get-away. The house would also serve well as a muse for the artist (or anyone) looking for inspiration. Everything worked perfectly (WiFi, TV, appliances, etc) and the hosts do a phenomenal job with amenities. We will definitely return to this lovely vacation home.

Does it get better than this???

The Windward House was the PERFECT place for my husband & I to celebrate our anniversary. Dee was super responsive from our first communication and she was super accommodating. In fact, there was a note and bottle of wine for our anniversary and a cute personalized basket for our dog that included dog bowls and treats waiting for us upon arrival. Checking in could not have been easier. Dee sent great (easy) directions since GPS is a little hinky for their location. The house itself is well maintained and very clean. Dee has thought of everything you could possibly need. Soft towels, plenty of extra pillows (various softness) binoculars, lighting chargers both upstairs and downstairs, a very well equipped kitchen, detailed instructions for TV, etc., a list of suggestions for restaurants and things to do nearby ...the list goes on and on! For us it was peaceful, relaxing, comfortable, beautiful, fun ... it could not have been more perfect. It was so great to sit on the front porch with the gorgeous view, cattle on nearby hills, watch the rain storms go by in the distance...and of course visit Cody, Love Bug and Jack! In fact, on our anniversary, we decided we’d rather stay at Windward House and cook our anniversary dinner rather than go out! Awesome travel experience! We’re already planning our next visit!

Return trip even better!

I stayed at this property back in April 2022 and knew I had to return in the Fall with my husband in tow. I knew I would have an amazing time and my husband soon discovered why I had been raving about this place for six months. The house was again perfect with every little detail so thoughtfully executed. Dee is an absolute delight to communicate with and is very responsive to any question or request. Due to my city girl ignorance (long story), Michael had to visit the property and was so kind and friendly despite being slightly inconvenienced (he is also a tremendous artist!). I really feel like part of an extended family here. Being here in the Fall was breathtaking and relaxing. The scenery is unbeatable and you can't help but release all of the tension stored in your body. I was very excited to visit with Cody, Jack, and LoveBug again. Next time I will bring carrots for our animal hosts (unless Dee and Michael would also like carrots). :) We will be back again with our dog who loves this property as much as we do (and although not really curious about the resident animals - he sure tried his best to roll around in their fragrant deposits!) Ack! Bad dog! You owe it to yourself to get away and be pampered in the most unobtrusive and comforting way. Dee and Michael truly make you feel like a treasured guest. And this place restores peace and tranquility to an overstimulated city dweller.

Relaxing

Had a great time, so relaxing to sit on the front porch and enjoy fresh air and view. The home was beautiful and had everything you needed. Dee was so nice to work with.

Your hosts are Michael and Dee Papit

We live just down the road in a renovated 1936 Sears Kit House. Michael is an architect, and Dee is a marketing consultant. Purchasing Windward House in 2017, led us to put our combined sills to use as creators of physical spaces, and, managers of great customer experiences.

We've stayed at vacation homes with no vibe, terrible beds, poorly equipped kitchens, rickety chairs, and terrible views.

We decided to do it differently — going from fussy guests, to obsessive hosts.

Our approach is all about the visitor's experience — from the minute you drive up, to the deep sigh of content when you sit on the front porch to take in the beautiful mountain vistas, to waking up feeling rested, yet adventurous — it's all been specially designed for adults who appreciate a great getaway . The house was purchased just to be hosts for travelers who like what we like: a good vibe, carefully appointed rooms, good art, a well-equipped kitchen, a great nights sleep, cozy corners, and wonderful spaces to be still, be creative, have fun, and feel like you are miles away from your daily grind.

Dee's Note: We do not hire someone else to care for our place. We personally care for the house, and our guests. We clean (my Italian grandmother taught me the value of a sparkling house, and how to make it that way, when I was young), mow the lawn, manage the house workings, decorate (it's fun with an architect at your disposal ; ) by handpicking every single item from bed linens, to espresso cups, that we hope our guest will enjoy. And we live just down the road, so we're close by if you need us, yet will totally respect your privacy while you are visiting.

In a word, the view and peaceful vibe. The minute you look out over the mountain vistas you feel like you are on top of the world. We fell in love with this little house on the hill the minute we saw the view and envisioned the potential to welcome other's here too. Plus, we love this location, you are a short hop over from the interstate, so no meandering miles through back roads to get to your destination. Yet you are about half-way between two charming towns, Lexington (about 12 minutes south) and Staunton (about 20 minutes north). So come, relax, enjoy, and be at home.
