We had a truly lovely, relaxing stay in this gorgeous traditional Mexican cottage, with amazing views over the pool and the sea. It was wonderfully peaceful, and the hosts were very welcoming. Juan and his family, who look after the property, were fantastic. Their son-in-law kindly ferried us around the island in his taxi and showed us different places along the way, which really added to our experience. A fantastic stay overall, we would absolutely love to return.

What a beautiful place to relax

Casa Makax is on a quiet part of Isla Mujeres and has only four units with a beautiful pool and an incredible view of the gentle waters between Cancun and the island. If you are looking for a great place to just chill out, this is ideal.

Such a beautiful property! We were moving from a house on the south side we had shared with our adult children and moved to this location after they departed. We have stayed all over the island but never in Sac Bajo. We would 10 out of 10 come back to this location. Seclusion, peace, beauty, tranquility at its finest. Wonderful Vacation

Lovely stay on the beach

We had a wonderful time during our 4 nights at Villa Makax! The property was clean and comfortable, with a view of the pool and the ocean. We loved the privacy and easy access of the beach, and used both the beach and the pool daily. We met the owners, Steve and Lindell, who were so welcoming and fun, and gave us lots of great restaurants recommendations. We rented a golf cart to get around the island and would definitely recommend that for this location on the peninsula. Highly recommend a trip to Isla Mujeres and Villa Makax!

Fantastic property and location

We really enjoyed Villa Makax again. Our second visit, and it won't be our last. Steve and Lyndell are terrific hosts and the property is one of the best on the island. A very quiet location with great pool and unbelievable sunsets.

Time To Chillax!

Well, we picked the right place to stay, for sure! Our cottage was very comfortable and relaxing. A breathtaking ocean view; your own private beach; and, just steps out the front door and you’re at poolside. It just doesn’t get any better!Steve and Lindell (sp) are wonderful hosts who immediately make you feel right at home.And, when we chose to explore the island, we just fired up the golf cart (you rent them) and hit Adventure Trail! Multiple beaches to visit, swim with the dolphins, delicious restaurants and, of course, shopping galore!No doubt about it…we’ll visit again. Another Great stay!

We have been to Villa Makax a few times now and love it. It is always very quiet and peaceful, which is just what we look for on a get-away trip. We go up to town for some entertainment and nightlife but are glad to get back to a heated pool and beach that are never crowded because of the limited number of guests. Juan and Serviana do a great job. And it is always fun to see Steve and Lindell.

My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Cottage Grand. The Villa is exactly as described. The property is absolutely beautiful and kept perfectly by Juan and his family. Villa Makax

The whole experience was wonderful. Owners are in their cottage and socialize occasionally. They are very nice and helpful. We had a golf cart for the week which made coming and going all over the island very easy. Cottage was clean, bottled water dispenser inside, ice cube trays and full size fridge. Pool was super, about 50 steps to the sea. It's exactly like it looks in the pictures.

Villa Makax was beautiful! Our villa that we stayed in was clean, had a/c and hot water. There was a tv with netflix. The kitchen in our little villa was clean and functional. The property was clean, other visitors were nice as well as the hosts (Steve and his wife). The pool and beach access were absolutely amazing. They answered all and any of our questions as needed.

Relaxing!

This was our second time staying at Villa Makax and we enjoyed both times very much. (I highly recommend getting a golf cart to get around the island.) We love the relaxed atmosphere, private beach and pool. We really enjoyed the newer lounging area, it was nice to visit with other guest and get to know them. Steve and Lindel are super nice and full of knowledge of the island and great places to eat. Juan was quick to help out with anything we needed. 🙂 I highly recommend Villa Makax is you want a relaxing vacation!

We stayed at Villa Makax for the second time this past month, and enjoyed it even more than the first time! Love the changes made to the property / the new pool is fantastic to cool off in! Hosts Steve and Lindell are wonderful, and the accommodations are super comfortable. Especially the bed and linens. I never wanted to get out of bed in the morning ! We will be back !

What a fantastic week we had at Villa Makax! If you you're looking for a quiet, beautiful, safe place on Isla, this is it. Our villa was clean and nicely decorated. The beach and pool were fantastic. Juan will take care of just about anything you need, including having a golf cart delivered. The owners, Steve and Lindell are one of the big reasons this property is so great. They were so helpful and we had the best time talking with them. What a great story they have. Can't wait to go back!

Ideal stay at Villa Makax

We spent the first week of March in the Casita Grande at Villa Makax to celebrate our 25th anniversary and my 50th Birthday. It was exactly as advertised! Clean, comfortable, plenty of room for the 2 of us! Having a golf cart gave us flexibility to set our own schedule and explore on our own. It is a fun 15-20 min trip to the Playa Norte area. The pool and beach areas were used and enjoyed. Only had short interactions with owners and other guests. Enjoyed the dog Pluto and the 2 large bunnies! Felt safe and honestly had the most relaxed vacation we have had. I bought 2 long Turkish lightweight towels with beach chair clips to use and these were a good purchase. Thanks for a great week (it wasn’t long enough!).

Just perfect for people like us.

You could stay at the famous north beach but you would miss out on: 1. Your own stand alone beach front casita (not a multistory hotel with elevators and stairs). 2. A private beach with shady palapas shared with only the owners and 2 other casitas (not crowds of daytrippers). 3. Your own kitchen. 4. A large private lanai. 5. Sounds of lapping waves and birds (not loud music). But we did enjoy casting our own choices of music from YouTube to the smart TV. We stayed in the "Cottage Grande" (AKA "Casita Grande"). It is actually more spacious than the pictures shown on VRBO, with a kitchen and bathroom larger than those in our Manhattan apartment. The hosts are an amazing couple who built this compound over decades and brought it to its current state of near perfection. We have stayed at many VRBO properties but none compare to Villa Makax.

Secluded and beautiful, private property

My wife and I stayed at the newly finished Casita Grande and loved it. On the calmer side of west side of Isla Mujeres, the Casita is well furnished and decorated with a nice sized kitchen and sizable shower and bed. Pretty perfect for a couple. Air-conditioned for when you want it. Nice little sitting area on the patio and two great raised-wall areas on the beach for kicking back in a lounger or chair. The property and view is fantastic. Really nice mix of rock, sand, sun, pool, trees and living space. Safe, scenic and really hit the spot for us. The owners are good-natured, friendly and have a fantastic life story. They're there if you need them and otherwise you relax, explore the area or travel about the island as you see fit. Steve gave us great recommendations for food. Lassie the mixed-breed "collie" is way friendly and very well behaved. When not eating or drinking in the Casita, we walked up or down the beach or grabbed a reasonable and readily available cab to some other spots. If you're looking for a bigger beach with more swimmable space that's a little lacking though you can walk up or down the beach for better spots or hit Playa Norte where it really opens up. If you're looking for a quiet, uncrowded space with everything you need for a relaxing vacation you can't go wrong with Villa Makax! Highly recommended!

Beautiful secluded/private property with beachfront and stunning views

Right from the beginning Steve was very friendly and communicative. Promptly answered ALL of our numerous emails with an abundance of questions. Our cottage wasn't available for the total time we were spending there, so he let us rent another cottage for three days (minimum stay is four) until our cottage was available. The grounds are beautiful, the views are stunning, and the caretakers are very friendly. The property has a friendly dog named Hookah and two very friendly rabbits that we enjoyed while we were there. The beach is just steps from any of the cottages. The pool and sitting areas were well maintained and cared for on a daily basis. There is plenty of parking for vehicles and golf carts. The property is within walking distance to Zama Beach Resort and Izla Hotel where you can catch a taxi; but I would highly recommended renting a golf cart. What I loved most about the property is that it's located on the south end of the island on Sac Bajo away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, just a 20-minute golf cart ride away. The property is quiet, secluded and peaceful. The property has a covered sitting area with very comfortable cushioned patio sofas, chairs and coffee table along with an open bar with water, beer and juice available that all guests are welcome to and usually contribute to upon their departure. It's a great place to sit and have a cocktail, socialize with the other guests or gaze at the beautiful views. I personally loved sitting there, as well as on our patio, watching and listening to the rain. If you're looking for luxury, daily room service and posh amenities this place IS NOT for you. But if you're looking for peacefulness, solitude and relaxation this IS the place for you.

Little piece of paradise

My husband and I stayed in the Cottage Grande for 5 days celebrating our 10-year anniversary. This was our first time to the island, and we had the best time! The cottage was perfect! I list some of my pros and cons as that is always helpful to me when trying to figure out where to stay. Pros.. *Cottage was very clean..floors, kitchen, bathroom, linens all spotless. *The AC in the unit was wonderful. The cottage did not have any musty, humid wetness feel that you most often get in tropical areas. *Loved the no kids policy and the small size of the place. We felt like we had the beach and pool all to ourselves. *The proximity to the beach is amazing...just steps away. We woke up, opened our curtains and laid in bed looking at the ocean. *They have a large water dispenser in the unit, loved that we could just refill our cups and not have to buy bottled water. Tip..bring your own large insulated cups and pop them in the fridge overnight or while you are out and about to have nice cold water when you get back. *Staff and owners are extremely friendly and helpful. *The best was relatively comfortable and not to firm *I like to get all unpacked when on vacation and the cottage had a nice closet with hangers as well as lots of space in the bathroom to put all my products :) *Property is in a great location...10 min golf cart ride to north and south end. *Sunset from the property are amazing. Cons... *Seagrass in the ocean. About 3 ft into the ocean and the whole bottom is covered with seagrass. This is by no means the properties fault but thought I would mention it in case some people would not like it. It didn't bother me at all I still swam and just didn't touch the floor bottom. *Lack of curtains in our cottage. There were 2 windows in the cottage that did not have window covering. I would have liked them covered for privacy. We had a fabulous stay at Villa Makax and definitely would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet. relaxing beach getaway.
