Ours is a difficult business and it is easy to focus on the problems, but we really appreciate when our guests take the time to let us know we got it right. We are so sorry this guest was unhappy! We always strive to make every guest stay as perfect as possible, inspecting every property twice between every departure/arrival. Our staff are human of course, and so even if we hit 95%, that still leaves some issues from time to time for guests to contend with. Mammoth Five Star Lodging enforces a 30 day cancelation period, which is to say that all reservations are non-cancelable 30 days prior to arrival. At the time of booking, if outside 30 days, we take a 50 % deposit. You may then cancel for any reason until 30 days prior to arrival for just a $65 cancelation fee. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance, either from us or another reputable source. While we don't have control over the town's municipal snow removal services (or the hand shoveling managed by the Homeowner's Association in this residential condo complex), we do understand that the heavy snowfall that commonly occurs here in Mammoth can be a shock to visitors. Please remember that during periods of excessive snowfall, the town prioritizes major roads and access to emergency services (such as the hospital, fire and police stations) over residential areas and the smaller roads. This practice can cause delays in clearing snow from driveways and walkways. (Hand shoveling crews need clear roads and parking lots before they can arrive and do their work, for example.) While we are sorry this guest was inconvenienced, we want to emphasize that heavy snowfall is a fact of life at 9000' in the Sierra's in winter, and is why Mammoth Lakes is the winter wonderland it is. We understand that guests may not be familiar with the challenges of living in a snowy environment, but please exercise patience with locals who work throughout these storms to dig the town out and keep things moving. To help our guests better prepare for their stay, we recommend that they be equipped with appropriate clothing and footwear for icy & snowy conditions and be prepared to deal with the impact of all that snow on other aspects of life, such as limited parking, extra time to warm up vehicles and clear snow, installing chains, and dealing with icy/slippery walkways.
