Can you keep a secret?We loved Lissadell on the Sea so much that we didn’t want to tell anyone about it. Just a secret between us. But we did promise a review … It was beautiful. Peaceful. Magical. A little lonely in a poetic way. We had planned to go see things, do things, but when we arrived we abandoned any thought of leaving. Our biggest decisions became, “Should we go for a walk or stay by the fire with our books and knitting?”We met the owners, who invited us to the Lissadell estate house for a coffee and a tour, kindly giving up part of their Sunday morning. We wandered the grounds, visiting the beautiful walled gardens and strolling the beaches. Oh, and the house. Renovated and refurbished, but only in good ways, everything in keeping with the style and age of a cottage on an Irish sea. Supplied with breakfast essentials and wine. Gorgeously decorated with top of the line kitchen appliances and luxurious bath amenities. Down-filled, linen sofas and plenty of books. Surprises such as an etching by Jack Yeats and a hidden reading nook overlooking the sea. Two bedrooms with beautiful linens, so there’s room for another couple, but who would want that? We wished to stay forever.
