Surrounded by moorland in the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, guests will find Stanhope the ideal spot from which to start their exploring. There are multiple established walks, public footpaths, bridle ways and cycle routes that run directly through the village and out into the nearby valleys and fells and unspoilt natural woodland. Guests will be able to glimpse at close range an abundance of local wildlife, flora and fauna that populates this magnificent area. Stanhope is also the current terminus for the Weardale Railway, a heritage railway that operates primarily at weekends all year round and runs from Bishop Auckland, with Stations at Frosterley and Wolsingham. A little further afield but still within easy driving distance, guests will be able to visit the natural beauty of Cumbria and the Lake District, the Durham Dales, Northumberland and Newcastle.
