The Space:

Ca’ Rouge is a traditional three-story house cleverly divided into three self-contained apartments (one per floor), all connected by an internal staircase. Each apartment features a private entrance from the common stairwell, its own kitchenette, a private bathroom, and a comfortable sleeping area. The interiors are newly renovated in a simple yet stylish design, offering a clean, modern look and functional amenities. Bedroom arrangements: two of the apartments sleep 2 guests each (ideal for couples, each with a cozy double bed), while the top-floor loft apartment sleeps up to 4 (with a queen bed on the mezzanine and a sofa bed in the living area). Large windows draw in natural light, and neutral tones with tasteful touches make the space feel bright and welcoming. While each unit is independent – great for when you want a little privacy – the house is ideal for gathering together as a group. Prepare meals in one of the fully equipped kitchens or enjoy aperitivo spread out across the apartments. It’s like having your own boutique hotel: entirely yours!



Guest Access:

Guests renting Ca’ Rouge have exclusive access to the entire building. You will have the main entrance all to yourselves, and you can access all three apartments via the internal staircase. Feel free to use every space: all the kitchens, living areas, and amenities in the house are for your private group’s use. There are no shared areas with outsiders – if you book Ca’ Rouge as an entire home, it’s all yours. We provide fresh linens, towels, and basic toiletries in each apartment. Note: Access to the upper floors is by stairs only (no elevator), so be prepared to climb stairs inside the house.



The Neighborhood:

Ca’ Rouge is located in the historic center of Carloforte, a charming maze of narrow streets with colorful facades and a unique old-world vibe. Step outside and you’re immediately immersed in local life: morning espresso at the cafe, fishermen selling the catch of the day by the port, and residents chatting in the piazzetta. The main square and Carloforte’s waterfront promenade are just a few minutes’ walk away. You can stroll to Piazza Repubblica, shaded by fig trees, or visit the beautiful Church of San Carlo on the town’s central piazza for a glimpse of 18th-century architecture. The neighborhood is full of quaint shops, gelaterias, and restaurants – be sure to try the local tuna specialties and the famous farinata or cuscus tabarchino (a couscous unique to Carloforte). Everything in town is at your fingertips: the old city walls and Lion’s Gate fortification, a small but fascinating local history museum in the old tower, and the picturesque harbor where you can watch ferries come and go. Carloforte is often called one of Sardinia’s prettiest towns, and from Ca’ Rouge you’ll see why – the blend of Ligurian and Sardinian culture, the friendly locals, and the postcard-perfect streets make every day special.

For things to do, you won’t need to go far. Wander the cobbled alleys to find hidden courtyards and colorful murals, or relax with a glass of wine in an open-air cafe. If you feel like exploring beyond the town, you’re on the right island – San Pietro is ringed with natural beauty. Within a 10–15 minute drive, you can reach stunning beaches like La Bobba, Girin, or Guidi with turquoise waters and white sand. Nature lovers should check out the salt pans (Saline di Carloforte) just outside town for a chance to spot pink flamingos and other rare birds in the wild. A scenic drive (or bike ride) across the island leads to Capo Sandalo Lighthouse, Italy’s westernmost lighthouse, where you’ll catch breathtaking sunset views over the sea. Back in town, the evenings come alive with passeggiata (evening strolls) and occasional festivals – if you visit in early summer, the famous Girotonno tuna festival is a must-see celebration of Carloforte’s tuna fishing heritage. In short, Ca’ Rouge’s neighborhood offers a perfect balance of culture, cuisine, and coastline to fill your itinerary.



Getting Around:

Carloforte is a small, walkable town, and from Ca’ Rouge you can reach almost everything on foot. The ferry port, supermarkets, shops, and many restaurants are within a few minutes’ walk, so you won’t necessarily need a car while in town. The historic center’s streets are narrow (and some are pedestrian-only), which makes strolling around a pleasure. If you do arrive by car, note that parking in the old town can be limited – we recommend using the free parking areas near the harbor or on the edge of the center and then walking to the house (about 5-10 minutes).

To explore the rest of San Pietro Island, a car or scooter is the most convenient option since public transport is limited. There is a local bus service that runs to some beaches and outlying areas in summer, but schedules can be infrequent[1]. Many visitors choose to rent scooters or bikes to enjoy the island’s scenic roads – there are rental agencies in town if you didn’t bring a vehicle. Driving around is easy and lets you discover those remote coves and panoramas at your own pace. The island is small (about 20 minutes end-to-end), so taxis are another quick option if needed. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can even explore by bike (just keep in mind it’s hilly and can get hot in summer). However you get around, don’t miss taking a ferry trip (passenger ferries and car ferries run frequently) to mainland Sardinia or the nearby island of Sant’Antioco for interesting day trips – but you’ll always love coming back to the tranquility of Carloforte.
