Built in the late 1800s as a grand hotel, the Metropole still retains its elegance and heritage, you can still enjoy the beautiful old ballroom when events are held, as well as a welcoming bar and a Chinese restaurant which are within the building. Set high on the West Cliff, the Metropole looks out over Whitby’s sweeping golden beach, which can be reached by a zigzagging path leading down to the shore lined with colourful beach huts.

This enviable location places you close to the Whitby Pavilion, home to a vibrant calendar of events including the world-famous Goth Weekends, Steampunk gatherings, Northern Soul events, concerts, theatre and more. The open-plan living area includes a well-equipped kitchen and a dining table for two, with a large, sumptuous sofa positioned in front of the fireplace featuring an electric stove. The sofa folds out into a double bed for additional guests. A door from the living space opens onto your own private balcony, complete with seating where you can enjoy morning coffee or an evening drink while taking in the sea views. The king-size bedroom offers plenty of storage with a wardrobe and drawers, while the bathroom features a bath with a shower over. For added convenience, especially during longer stays or after days at the beach, a washing machine is located in the hallway. Access to the apartment is via the grand original staircase or by lift, and the property is dog friendly. Many sections of Whitby’s beaches allow dogs year-round, making this an ideal base for guests travelling with a pet.

For keen walkers, the apartment’s clifftop location is perfect, with the Cleveland Way passing by. This spectacular coastal trail leads to the neighbouring villages of Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes, each offering their own charm and stunning scenery.
