The Space:
Welcome to Holmdale, a spacious 5-bedroom cottage in the heart of Porlock. Perfectly positioned between Exmoor âs rolling hills and the coastline, with beautiful sea views from the first floor. Just moments from the village High Street, yet backing directly onto open countryside, this is the ideal base for walkers, beach-lovers and those seeking a relaxing rural break. This much-loved family home is steeped in history, being the former cottages of the village butchers. Expect period features throughout, such as original windows, impressive beams and ornate flooring.
Sleeping up to 11 guests, the house is well-suited to large families and groups. Upstairs, youâll find three double bedrooms, a triple bunk room (double below, single above), and a single room with pull-out floor bed (available on request), four of which enjoy sea views. Two family bathrooms serve this floor, one with bath and shower, the other with a walk-in shower.
Downstairs offers plenty of room for everyone to unwind. The farmhouse kitchen features a winter-lit AGA, a separate large oven with 6 hobs, and everything you need for group cooking. A dining room comfortably seats 11, while two living spaces provide relaxation options: one with a piano, books, log burner and soft seating, the other a cosy snug with Smart TV and sofa bed. You'll also find a sofa bed here (available on request). A laundry room, ground-floor shower and separate WC add extra convenience.
Outside, Holmdale boasts an enclosed garden with split-level lawns and patio seating â perfect for summer evenings. Parking for up to 3 cars is provided, with additional local parking available.
Full of character, history and space, Holmdale offers the best of Exmoor village charm with room for everyone. A wonderful setting for gatherings, adventures and long-lasting memories.
The Neighborhood:
Porlock offers a perfect blend of coast, countryside, history and adventure, making it an exceptional base for a holiday. For walkers, itâs pure paradise, with hundreds of routes to choose from. Whether you prefer gentle flat strolls, challenging hill hikes or a scenic run, youâre spoiled for choice. The South West Coast Path runs right through the village, offering breathtaking views and access to miles of stunning coastline. Horse riding and biking are popular too, and thrill-seekers can head to Exmoor Adventures just five minutes away for kayaking, coasteering and more.
Porlock itself is a charming village brimming with independent shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. Just next door in Bossington, youâll find the Hawk & Owl Centre, while Porlockâs own museum offers a fascinating glimpse into local heritage. Porlock Pebble Beach is only a 15-minute walk away, with Bossington Beach reachable in around 30 minutes. For sandy shores, Minehead, Lynmouth and beyond are an easy drive. Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Porlock, we would recommend bringing a car for your stay. Private parking for up to 3 vehicles can be found on the driveway at the back of the property. There is additional free or paid parking very close by. Porlock Central car park is a 5-minute walk away, and costs ÂŁ6 - ÂŁ7 per day.
Other Things to Note:
We provide an initial quantity of logs, kindling and firelighters. If you need more, all are available from local stores. Porlock Home & Hardware is just a 2-minute walk away on the High Street.
Please note, the pull out single bed and sofa bed are only available on request. Please let us know at the time of booking if you need to use them so we have ample time to make arrangements.
