Quarter House - Luxury Cottages
At a glance
Complete with a private hot tub and games room Breathtaking south-facing views across private grounds to the rolling Borders hills Spacious, stylish interiors perfect for relaxing and exploring with friends or family
About the property
Quarter House is an enchanting C Listed former shooting lodge that offers a unique and memorable escape for groups seeking history, charm and adventure. Built in 1680, with a fairytale turret added in 1870, it was once home to Thomas Tweedie, who's coat of arms is still proudly displayed. Thoughtfully restored across three spacious floors, the lodge blends period character with modern comfort. There are fine period features throughout, such as decorative cornicing, high ceilings, working window shutters and sash and case windows. Modern touches such as the kitchen appliances, underfloor heating, and fast Wi-Fi complete the picture of an optimal holiday retreat. With panoramic south-facing views over private grounds and the surrounding hills, combined with the tranquil setting of the Glenholm valley near Broughton, it's the perfect base for group getaways.
The space
The turret vestibule and its historic wood door exude period charm and character, setting the tone for the rest of the house.
The spacious sitting room boasts breathtaking valley views, two plush sofas, a wood-burning stove (logs provided), and Sky TV with the full sports package, ideal for cosy nights or gatherings.
The serene music room, with its baby grand piano, oak bookshelves, and decorative fireplace, overlooks the peaceful rear garden and is perfect for reading, working or relaxing. Meanwhile, the formal dining room links the sitting room and kitchen, featuring an extending table beneath elegant lighting, ideal for celebrations and delicious banquets.
The kitchen blends country charm with modern amenities, including an AGA, dishwasher, air fryer, microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee machine, underfloor heating, casual seating, two extendable dining tables (seating up to 16), and a walk-in larder. Nearby, the boot room and utility room, fully equipped with washer and dryer, offer convenience after countryside adventures.
At the beginning of each stay, guests will be provided a welcome basket with basic food and snacks, including milk, bread, coffee, tea and chocolate. Items are locally sourced from the Broughton Village Store and surrounding areas. The home offers a generous selection of beautifully appointed bedrooms.
The principal bedroom features a super-king bed, dressing area, built-in wardrobes, TV, decorative fireplace and a luxurious en-suite shower room. Enter through the upper level of the historic turret, and wake up to a breathtaking view of the glen each morning.
The art-themed bedroom features a super-king bed, seating area, decorative fireplace, and large wardrobe perfect for storing your travel accessories.
The cheerful twin room with two single beds is ideal for children or friends sharing. This room has a decorative fireplace and seating area. The stunning glen views can be seen from the two south-facing windows.
Super-king 4 poster bed, large wardrobe, desk, TV, south-facing window with glen view, with warm colour palette creating a cosy atmosphere.
Super-king 4 poster bed, chaise lounge and additional seat, decorative fireplace, large wardrobe, TV, and garden views.
There's also a cosy attic bedroom with its own en-suite, tucked into the eaves for those who prefer peace and seclusion. The bedroom has a double bed, built-in wardrobe, skylights, TV and seating area. Next to the attic bedroom, there is a relaxed loft space with bean bags, soft seating and a workstation, making it perfect for teens or remote work.
The separate cottage, just steps away, offers independent living with a low double bed, sitting room with wood burner and pull-out double bed, kitchen, wet room and underfloor heating.
All bedrooms feature a USB and USB-C charging point integral to bedside lamps for guest convenience. Rooms include hanging space and storage for guests clothing and luggage, while robes and slippers are also provided.
The old stable, a vaulted games room between house and cottage, features a massive sofa, wood-burning stove, pool table, table tennis, darts, large TV with Sky Sports package and Xbox, traditional mahogany bar and beer machine with the first mini keg included. Ideal for large gatherings and family fun, away from the quiet of the house and/or in inclement weather.
The property offers beautifully landscaped outdoor spaces perfect for relaxation and recreation. Highlights include a lower courtyard with a fireplace, BBQ, and dining area, and an upper garden with a pond, vegetable beds, and stone walkways leading into the forest.
The cottage courtyard features seating, a hot tub, BBQ, and manicured lawns. A flat lawn is ideal for games and overlooks a scenic pond, while the south lawn provides a peaceful spot for morning coffee with views of the glen. A grass path links the Quarter House to the Holms Water picnic area and surrounding trails. Seasonal bloomsâsnowdrops, daffodils, primroses, rhododendrons, and helleboresâenhance the gardens year-round.
