Authentic medieval mini castle with roaring log fires and all modern comforts. In beautiful countryside on the River Tweed. Ideal for exploring the Scottish Borders. Biking at Glentress 5 minutes; Edinburgh 45 minutes; Peebles nearby. Heavenly walks. If Barns Tower happens to be booked when you want to stay, we do have two other luxurious properties right next door at Barns Library (sleeps 4) and Barns Bothy (sleeps 2), both available through VRBO
The space
Enjoy staying in a cosy, romantic miniature castle with all the luxuries of the 21st century. There is a luxurious double bed on the top floor and a possible 2 extra single beds in the Sitting Room.
Guest access
Linen, towels, heating and firewood are included, as well as wifi and a selection of Highland Soap Company toiletries. It is possible to arrange a private visit to Neidpath Castle if you should wish.
Other things to note
The Tower is ancient with open fires and fairly steep stairs, so not very convenient for small children or those unable to walk.

An incredible house in a beautiful area.

We had a 3 night stay in Barns Tower for my husbands birthday. It's a magical place beautifully restored, comfortable without losing charm. Its was -2°c on our first night but the tower was surprisingly warm day and night. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed is comfortable and the shower in the boot room is hot and powerful. There are some lovely walks from the tower and the pleasant walk into Peebles with its many cafés, pubs and shops took just over an hour. I'm sure we'll return for our next 'big' birthday celebration.

Perfect for the imperfections

This is our second stay at Barns Tower and our first Christmas. There’s no words to describe how fantastic it is, the history, location and furnishings, it’s just perfect. The imperfections are the signs of its history, the lost stains above the fireplace, the marks on the limewash. The only thing that is truly terrible about Barns Tower is leaving it to go home.

Unique place to stay in a great location.

Really unique memorable holiday place to stay, The Tower was totally as advertised, perhaps even better, great fun for a few days away. Lovely location with the most beautiful walk along the Tweed into Peebles and back. The Tower was cosy, lots of stairs of course, plenty or room for 2 plus 2 dogs. Loads of wood included for fires.

Was an experience. Great I must say with one exception the stairs but as we are over 70 expected. The whole experience was brilliant everything was there to enjoy full kitchen to good shower and excellent wifi a must these days overall a brilliant place

A perfect birthday break

I stayed in this beautiful tower for 5 nights over my birthday. I could not have wished for a better place to be - it was perfect. Peaceful and quiet - roaring fires- there is a wonderful gentle energy about the place. I felt right at home from the moment I arrived. The surroundings are gorgeous and there are lovely walks- we were lucky to get a gentle sprinkling of snow which was beautiful. The whole place is comfortable and easy to live in. Great shower/bath- lovely huge comfortable bed and super comfy sofa and armchairs and well equipt kitchen. 15mins to Peebles in the car for supplies. 50mins from Edinburgh. I have no negatives. I absolutely loved it. Thank you!

Totally beautiful

This is such a wonderful place. It is totally beautiful in every way. The design is stunning, a perfect balance maintaining the feel of the original character of the place whilst also having the comfort of all the modcons! A lot of flight of stairs so probably not ideal for the very young or elderly but perfect for everyone else! Also wonderful walks from the Tower.

Lovely stay at the characterful tower.

We stayed for 3 nights in Barns Tower. Lulu was very welcoming, attentive and the tower was well supplied with quality items. The grounds are stunning with the river tweed close by for evening walks. Can’t wait to go back.

Stunning tower house in beautiful grounds

We loved our stay in Barns Tower. It is a stunning historical timepiece. It is well equipped and the rooms are cosy. However, you need to be fit to climb the 4 flights of old stone/wood stairs. Also the doors are low and my husband bumped his head many times! There wasn't enough information about heating controls, hot water etc. Apart from that it was incredible!

A magical stay!

Barns Tower exceeded our expectations. We were looking for a personal castle stay, but for only two people. This place delivered! The drive in is beautiful, and there is a gorgeous walking path all around that will take you to many pastures of adorable livestock to watch frolic. The tower itself is so magical I want to live there! From the old staircases and historical references and touches, to the luxury touches like heated bathroom floors, fresh eggs and bread, and a collection of games and dvds, this place did not disappoint. We will be coming back, all the way from Canada!

Barn’s Tower Experience

We can’t say enough about this incredibly special place. We found the history of the tower and the surrounding area so intriguing. The recommended walk along the Tweed River and the nearby arboretum were beautiful. Make sure to stay at least a couple nights.

Peebles Paradise

Amazing property located just outside of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. A carefully and tastefully restoration of a historic tower, a must stay if you are looking for something unique! Our host was communicative and attentive. An overall amazing experience and we’ll be sure to come back again!

Three night stay in a castle

Three night stay in Barns Tower was amazing. It had everything we could wish for for an atmospheric stay over Halloween. We especially loved the big wood burning fires in both the kitchen and sitting room and we made good use of both. Exceptionally clean, with lovely walks in the surrounding area. Perfect secret hideaway!

We absolutely loved staying in the Barnes Tower! The decor was charming and comfortable, the bed was amazing and the location was gorgeous. It was fantastic to walk out the door onto the choice of wonderful walking trails whenever we wanted. The breakfast provisions provided for us were a welcome surprise as we never wanted to leave the tower to go into town. It was so peaceful and quiet and private, just a perfect retreat.

What a wonderful experience! The setting, atmosphere, history, and accommodations were amazing! Although intimidated at first by the steepness and uneveness of the stairs. we adapted quickly. Beautiful tower in a lovely, quiet location. The tower was everything we could have hoped for and more! Clean, very well equipped and thoughtful touches of milk, eggs, bread and butter supplied. Comfortable bed, good shower and bath. Thoughtfully renovated. Just perfect.
