Town: The village of Lyminge lies in southeast Kent and is only five miles from Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel, on the road passing through the Elham Valley. Lyminge is surrounded by farmland and ancient forests. There is a wide variety of flora and fauna and wildlife in the surrounding area, including badgers, various species of deer and wild boar which are thought to have escaped from farmed populations. It is a thriving village with lots of local shops, a pub serving excellent food which also hosts regular event evenings, a coffee shop, a hairdressers and a library. The parish church is well worth a visit, being the oldest building in the village; it has stood since 633AD and has had a rich and varied past. Lyminge has been the focus of many archaeological digs in recent years, and jewellery, weapons and glassware have all been uncovered. Numerous footpaths and bridleways criss-cross the meadows and woods around this lovely part of Kent, so why not pack a picnic, dust off the metal detector, and set off to explore ancient woodland and see if you can find a piece of the past?
