Trenarren House, 2 acres private garden & sea views (pet & family-friendly)
Stunning 5 bedroom Grade II listed manor in the heart of South Cornwall's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with stunning sea views.
Trenarren House has been a private residence since the 19th century, and we are delighted to open it up for you to come and appreciate it for the first time in its history! Once the home of renowned author AL Rowse, Trenarren House is steeped in history.
It has over 3 acres of private gardens and woodland at the head of the valley with uninterrupted views over the lawn to the sea. You will have exclusive access to the house and grounds for your stay. Hallane Beach is a 10 minute walk down through the village.
Original curved stone walls frame the entrance to the private driveway, which provides ample parking for up to 8 cars.
The house sleeps 10 guests across 5 bedrooms, three of which offer stunning views of the sea. All bedrooms look out into the private grounds and are not overlooked.
The sleeping arrangements include two super king beds, one king-sized bed, one standard double, and a twin room where the beds can be joined into a super king.
We have a cozy kids' playroom with a day bed and cushions that can be easily converted to accommodate 2 additional guests. This allows the house to comfortably sleep up to 12 people in total. Please let us know if you would like us to make arrangements for this.
There are 3 bathrooms in total—one is an ensuite with a bath (and sea views!) and shower, one is a very spacious bathroom with a roll top bath and shower, and the third has a shower.
The main reception room on the ground floor is a beautiful dual-aspect drawing room 24 x 17 feet, with floor-to-ceiling sash windows and original parquet floor with breathtaking views over the grounds to the sea.
The kitchen is the heart of the house, where the AGA warms the room, and our hearts!
The house has many stunning original features including fireplaces, sash windows, parquet floors, doors and granite stone walls.
There is a mix of antique and more modern pieces of furniture and art, and antique kilims and rugs from around the world, giving the house a relaxed bohemian feel.
The house is fully equipped with an exstensive range of kitchen appliances, and 100% cotton towels and linen.
The property has been lovingly updated where necessary and compassionately respected where not! Some bits like the induction hob and one fridge are brand new and other bits like the AGA have seen many years of loving service.
The house is set in 2 acres of stunning ornamental gardens with an abundance of flowering perennials including Rhododendrons, Camelias, Roses and Cherry, as well as a wild flower meadow with bluebells, campion, tricorn leaks and primroses. There is an orchard with multiple varieties of apple, as well as cherry and pear trees and a beautiful ancient yew tree that calmly and knowingly watches over the bottom end of the garden.
There is an array of wildlife here including deer and many species of birds including: Collared Doves, Wood Pigeons, Jays, Buzzards, Robins, Blackbirds, Coal Tits, Finches, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Swallows, Goldcrests, Thrushes and Pheasants.
The quiet secluded location allows a unique sense of escape and a beautiful immersion in nature. Despite being within easy reach of St Austell and all the amenities, the house is an oasis of quiet and calm.
Trenarren House is an ideal place for family birthdays and gatherings, and for groups of friends to relax, to cook and eat together and enjoy the stunning gardens and views without interruption.
The house sits at the head of valley at Trenarren and occupies a very private position in the hamlet. It is not overlooked by any other property and has an incredibly private feel. It is a 2 minute walk from the house to the South West Coast Path – a designated National Trail, and England’s longest waymarked footpath.
It is a 10 minute walk through the sleepy hamlet down to the nearest beach at Hallane and then another 20 minutes or so to the point at Black Head, with stunning views.
The gorgeous sandy beach and cafe at Porthpean is around 45 mins walk or les than 10 minutes by car.
St Austell is a 10 minute drive away, with ample amenities including supermarkets, a main line train station with direct trains to Exeter and London Paddington, chemists and plenty of places to buy a pasty or a pair of crocs for the beach!
5 minutes by car and you’re at Charlestown, with some of the area’s best restaurants and bars, and another 5 mins drive and you’re at Carylon Bay with the hotel, spa and golf course, restaurants, beach cafes and a sauna on the beach.
The Eden project is less than 20mins by car.
The gastro hub of Fowey town is 25mins drive where there is an incredible range of restaurants serving everything from pizzas, burgers and tapas to beautiful fresh local seafood and fine dining.
It is 20 minutes’ drive to the Rashleigh estate and beaches at Polridmouth where Daphne Du Maurier lived and worked for many years.
