This scattered village is divided into two parts, Heage and Nether Heage, both home to rustic cottages and quaint lanes but neither possessing a centre. The name 'Heage' is Anglo-Saxon, meaning sublime or high and is fitting considering the hilly backdrop and greenery. The land has a rich history of farming and this is evident with its ancient farmhouses and working farms today, as well as the historic Morley Park, which was previously a coal mining and ironworks major setting.
