18th Century Cottage w/ Garden, Central Newquay
Summary:
This charming Cornish cottage is steeped in history. Dating back to 1750, itâs rumoured to be Newquayâs first shop - possibly a candlemaker. Despite a recent renovation, the cottage still retains many original features such as the shop window and door - it certainly offers a unique stay. The space is perfectly set up for six guests across 3 bedrooms. When the sun shines, enjoy barbecues out in your spacious garden (The BBQ is available for use from April to October). Or when the weather turns, cosy up in your living room with the fire roaring.
The Space:
Tucked away on a quiet road, yet only a stone's throw from central Newquay, this cottage makes for a relaxing escape. Inside, it blends a fresh nautical feel with vintage charm. Boasting old wooden floors, exposed beams and traditional windows alongside plenty of mod-cons for added comfort.
The cottage is split over 4 floors. On the lower ground level is a dining room and snug. Up on the ground floor above, you'll find the living room, kitchen and access to the garden with decking and outdoor seating. On the first floor, is the master bedroom and family bathroom with a walk-in shower. Whilst on the top floor, a double bedroom, bunk bed room and second family bathroom with a luxurious roll-top bath. As a historic period cottage, some of the stair cases are quite steep and narrow, so it may not be suitable for those with mobility limitations or very young children.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the whole cottage and back garden.
The Neighborhood:
The cottage is located in the heart of Newquay, one of Cornwallâs most popular towns. Its renowned beaches and bustling high street are right on the doorstep so youâll certainly have an action-packed holiday.
Set within Newquay town centre, you will discover lots of great shops and restaurants. Head to Box & Barber for great brunch options and good coffee, Pavilion for tasty baked treats as well as Lost Brewing. Co for burgers and craft beers!
The local Golf Course is a five minute walk away, whilst Fistral Beach is just fifteen minutes walk. By staying so close, youâre able to miss out on any parking struggles especially during the summer months! This renowned beach boasts fantastic surfing conditions, a surf school and numerous shops and restaurants. Try Rick Stein's fish and chips and The Stable's pizza, washed down with a pint of local Korev from Fistral Beach Bar. Over on the Pentire Headland is Lewinnick Lodge, a highly regarded hotel and restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood overlooking the water. They also serve cream teas and lunch throughout the day!
Newquay Towan Beach, Great Western Beach and Lusty Glaze are all easily accessible from the house. Slightly further afield, you will find Porth Beach, Watergate Bay and Crantock beaches, all of which are well worth a visit. Watergate Bay Hotel is one of the most highly regarded establishments in Cornwall, and we would highly recommend trying Emily Scott's restaurant if you are in the area.
Walkers are also perfectly placed to enjoy the very best of the South West Coastal Path, and you can set off on long walks in either direction straight from the door. Please see our Guest Guide for recommended walking routes as well as some of our favourite local spots.
Getting Around:
Newquay has some of the best travel connections anywhere in Cornwall. Trains operated by Great Western Railway run all the way from London Paddington into the centre of town, with only one change at Par. Additionally, Newquay also has an international airport which is around a 20 minute drive. You can either get a taxi here or rent a car for the rest of your trip.
The nearest car park to the cottage is Belmont long stay car park which is a few minutes walk away. It has a mix of paid and free parking depending on the time of year and day. From 1 November to 31 March, it is free to park here. Between 1 April and 31 October, from 9am to 4pm the charges are: Up to 1 hour - ÂŁ1.10, 1 to 2 hours - ÂŁ2.10, 2 to 3 hours - ÂŁ3.20, 3 to 4 hours - ÂŁ5.00, 24 hours - ÂŁ6.30, Weekly - ÂŁ15.80. From 4pm - 9am there is no charge. There are also rover tickets available that allow you to park in any council park park, as well as season tickets for extended stays.
There are also many other paid car parks in Newquay as well as free on street parking in certain areas, though finding a space can be difficult in busy periods.
Other Things to Note:
This is a four-storey period cottage and some of the staircases are quite steep and narrow. It therefore may not be suitable for those with mobility limitations or for young children.
The BBQ is available for use from April to October.
