Great family home in Madison

We had an amazing weekend at the Murphy home. The backyard and pool was perfect for our family(pool basketball, slide and diving board). There is plenty of room to gather inside and outside. The host was great to work with. They do live in the house when it is not rented but there was plenty of room for our family. We highly recommend this house for a large group of friends or family.

Great place for a great time!

We had a great time on our second visit to this VRBO location. We like where it’s located but even if you don’t go anywhere, the house is comfortable and clean and pretty and the backyard is great with the pool and hot tub and fire pit.

Julie has a beautiful home! We had a great trip and enjoyed spending time in the pool and a quick Uber ride to campus for a Badger game.

Nice property, large, very clean, great pool. Did not know this was this families home. All the family pictures and decorations, including the red white & blue outside light on the front was a bit too much. A bit of a shock in a tightly packed residential neighborhood. Loads of extras like sunscreen, spices etc. but the lack of even 1 coffee filter....would have been nice to know.

Nice property - just a few suggestions

It was very nice. Owners were very responsive to questions. We encourage you to add a rope, to mark the pool drop off. It would be nice to have the main wine refrigerator empty to avoid confusion. Please make sure the drinking water dispenser is full - it ran out the day we arrived. Please check the lower level main room tv - we couldn't get it to work.

Excellent Accommodations!

My husband, son and sister-in-law we’re visiting our daughter and son-in-law in Madison but wanted a place where we could all stay, and have a pool so we wouldn’t have to go anywhere-just relax and visit. Julie showed us around, told us to make ourselves at home, and we did. It was cleaner than any hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Had everything we needed . Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Perfect spot!

We could not say enough wonderful things about this home and the hosts. The house was perfect for our family! The entire family enjoyed the backyard - playing in the pool, fun pool slide, and fire pit. The hosts were nice enough to have a s’mores station and amenities for the pool (towels, bug spray, pool toys). Julie was very communicative and easy to work with. I would highly recommend this home!

Wonderful vacation

Our family gathered for a long weekend for summer vacation and to celebrate birthdays. The house was perfect for our family of 14. The pool, hot tub and pub table under the pergola were awesome! We cooked and grilled every meal and the host provided a well equipped kitchen and Weber gas grill. The house is beautiful and has so many areas to gather and each family had there own bedroom. Our family had such a good time at this home and the hosts were great people to work with. Definitely recommend this property!

Football weekend/mini family reunion

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Madison. The house was exactly as presented on line and it was perfect for our group: 7 adults (PSU grads) in this house, with other family members staying elsewhere in town but able to enjoy the pool/hot tub over the weekend. We enjoyed the Penn State win over Wisconsin over Labor Day weekend and this was the perfect place to enjoy a BBQ, and relax watching other football games over the weekend. The Murphy's are gracious hosts -- this is a 5-star property all around!

A gem in Madison

This was our first family vacation with my daughter, her husband, their 9 month old, my son, his wife, their 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son, my husband and me. It could not have gone better! Everyone was comfortable, the location was wonderful with a very child friendly beach and yummy ice cream and coffee shop nearby. the backyard pool and hot tub fantastic and there was no amenity missing And it would be hard to find a more gracious, helpful host than Julie. In fact we are now trying to find a time we can return next summer.

Fun and family friendly

We enjoyed the expansive yard and outdoor seating coves. We didn’t use the pool but it looked clean and fun. Slide, diving board and lots of water toys. House has a “man cave” with a football theme and a vast collection of karaoke songs and system. The rooms have lots of character. Very quiet neighborhood. About a 20 minute drive To downtown Madison. Traffic not an issue. Julie is very thorough with instructions and expectations. Would enjoy another stay in the future.

Review

Owners were great, and the home was clean and organized. Pool was a huge draw to this choice, and it did not disappoint. However, the mattresses in all the rooms need to be replaced (even the kids complained and they will usually sleep through anything). Also my daughter-in -law did not appreciate the security camera taking a picture of her child in the pool, and the owners texting it to me. She wondered what other pictures existed.

Rain, rain, rain.

Our visit was cursed by unforeseen amounts of torrential rain the second day. The basement completely flooded and our friends staying in the basement had to evacuate to a hotel. The owners were very responsive, and worked hard so that we could enjoy the rest of our stay, and the ultimate frisbee team could shelter from the terrible weather. Some tough negotiations on refunds, and perhaps there could have been a warning of possible issues in the event of heavy rain, but overall we very much appreciated the effort they made for us, and the house and its amenities were very nice and exactly as listed.

Joe and Julie Murphy have 6 kids and most have moved on so they want to share their home with other families, young or old. They currently live in the home but have other accommodations ready for them when you are in town! They are always available should the need arise but the house is user friendly and in great living condition!
Joe is a Chiropractor and Julie has owned and operated her own cleaning business for over 20 years.
They have been season Badger basketball and football ticket owners for years so if you need directions or have a question regarding any games, they have the answer.
