Wharton House Mews in Cartmel, Lake District
Summary:
Experience the ultimate getaway in the heart of Cartmel, the renowned foodie haven. This stunning loft conversion with a spa hot tub and second bedroom annexe offers a unique and intimate retreat. Immerse yourself in a vibrant village ambience with four traditional inns, Michelin-starred restaurants and famous racecourse. Explore the quaint streets, stream-side walks and 12th-century Priory. And with lake, fell and coastal walks handy, this gorgeous Cartmel Loft property has it all.
The Space:
Flop onto the bean-bag- wine glass at hand - and let this sumptuous loft space wrap you in its warm embrace. Or kick back on the opulent leather sofa to view the Smart Sonos TV. And when you’re ready to properly luxuriate, slip into your monogrammed robe - speaker and wine glass in hand- and head down to The Spa. The four-person hot tub can be found in a glamorous spa room with stone and rustic timber finishes. Ease yourself into the bubbling tub for a relaxing and invigorating experience.
This glorious loft conversion with a spa hot tub and second bedroom annexe offers a unique and intimate retreat; a dreamy spot right in the heart of Cartmel, the renowned foodie haven.
Being in the heart of an exquisite medieval village, quaint streets, stream-side walks and the 12th Century Priory are a few steps away. Immerse yourself in village life with four traditional inns, Michelin-starred restaurants, sticky-toffee puds and a race track. And with lake, fell and coastal walks handy, this gorgeous hide-away has the lot.
From the large entrance hall - great for storing coats and muddy boots (and for flopping down after your walk) - head upstairs to the spectacular open-plan space; lounge, kitchen and dining areas furnished to designer spec. The uber-stylish kitchen is equipped with every appliance; high ceilings and roof-lights create a bright and airy ambience.
When you’re done and it's time for bed, just retreat through the dressing room to your luxurious boudoir with super king-size bed. The spacious en-suite bathroom has a freestanding bath and large corner shower.
A few steps across the courtyard, you'll find the former village "lock up"- a bijou, quirky annexe with a fascinating history. This is where the second bed-space is ingeniously styled into the former village jail, listed as a building of special architectural and historical interest. The Jail bedroom has its own wet-room, wardrobe space, kettle and mini fridge. But beware it’s a very compact space!
Outside, you’ll want to unwind in the courtyard area. With tables, chairs and patio heater, it's a great space for a glass of wine before (and after) exploring the range of eateries within walking distance. For extra convenience, there’s a Utility Room equipped with full laundry facilities.
Guest Access:
One vehicle can be accommodated in the garage, and a parking permit is provided to be used for a second vehicle parking on the street. The nearest pay-and-display car park is a short walk two-minute walk away at the Cartmel Car Park just off the Race Course near the Village Shop.
The very largest of 4x4's (or long pick-ups) may be too large for the garage.
The Neighborhood:
Cartmel is often held to be the quaintest of all Lakeland villages with its cobbled pavements, medieval arch, heritage buildings, delightful stream-side walks and 12th-century Priory; a captivating destination that entices visitors with its charm and natural beauty.
Immerse yourself in the atmosphere and indulge in the array of charming shops, four traditional pubs and Simon Rogan's renowned Michelin starred restaurants; a treat for food enthusiasts. There’s a wine snug, microbrewery and cheese shop all gathered around a lovely courtyard space often featuring live music and pizzas on summer weekends. And with the famous national hunt racecourse just steps away, you can soak up the excitement of nine race days a year and enjoy fun-filled days out.
It's difficult to tear yourself away from this romantic property with its hot tub and charming village ambience, but there are many other attractions nearby: Levens Hall, Sizergh Castle and Holker Hall -each with a spectacular garden. There’s the Campbell Bluebird exhibition, the Lakeland Motor Museum and of course Lake Windermere (with breathtaking views and activities for outdoor enthusiasts); all are within 15 minutes drive.
Getting Around:
The nearest bus stop is the Clogger Beck stop; a short walk through the village. The 530, 531, and 532 bus routes to and from Cartmel adhere to a new timetable from the 24th July 2023
Local taxis operate in the area, we always recommend making a pre-booking. The nearest train stations are Grange Over Sands and Cark; from either, Wharton House Mews is approximately a 10 minutes drive.
