Haltwhisle nestles just over the Cumbrian border in Northumberland, but is only 10 miles east of the Cumbrian town of Brampton. The town itself is in the ‘geographic centre' of Great Britain and has a quirky mix of shops and restaurants, as well as an open air swimming pool. Hadrian's Wall is just 2 miles north or the village and has a large in tact part of the wall to explore, many visitors to the town are those walking Hadrian's Wall and most stop off en-route to soak up the towns atmosphere with traditional stone built houses. Believed to have been built 300 years before the Roman Wall, the Roman fort Vindolanda lies just south of Hadrian's Wall and is worth a visit if you are interested in a bygone era. The village is surrounded by rolling Northumberland countryside and the Lake District is under an hours drive away.
