Set only a couple of minutes from Druridge Country Park, bursting with wildlife popular with cyclists and water enthusiasts and a short drive from the magnificent unspoilt beach at Druridge Bay stretching 7 miles from Cresswell to Amble. The property is approximately a 20-minute walk away from Druridge Bay Beach, and local amenities at Hadston Village include a supermarket, post office, takeaways, hairdressers, and barbers.
Herons Rest is only a short drive from Amble, a popular and friendly small seaside town with plenty of shops, pubs, cafés, and harbour.
The harbour has a popular Sunday morning market with a great mixture of stalls, and the harbour village has a selection of small pods selling some local crafts, food, and drinks. Nearby Warkworth is a ‘picture postcard’ village with the castle sitting at the top of the hill. You can stop off in one of the friendly pubs or cafés. Further along the coast you come to Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh, all steeped in history and lovely for a few hours exploring. A little further past here you can cross the causeway and visit Holy Island (check the crossing time) for a step back in time experience.
The railway station at Alnmouth is only a few minutes’ drive where you can hop onto a train to Edinburgh or Newcastle and spend a great day exploring these historic cities steeped in history. Alnwick is only 15 minutes away with its majestic castle used in some ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ TV scenes, a great experience for both adults and children. Alnwick also offers the attractions of Alnwick Gardens and Lilidorei. Look around the small town exploring the cobbled streets and shops.
The beaches up the Northumberland Coast AONB remain unspoilt and underpopulated so there is always a place to find some seclusion should you wish, Cresswell and Druridge Bay beaches remain isolated most of the time and are only a short drive south. Whilst in Northumberland why not take a trip over to Hadrian’s Wall for a completely different day trip away from the coast and discover more about the Romans and the famous Roman wall? Wherever you go in this super friendly county you will be sure of a real warm Geordie welcome.
