Matthäus is situated directly on the Rhine, and the streets near the river are filled with cafes, shops, and restaurants. The cuisine on offer ranges from cheap eats to fine dining, and there are several supermarkets in Matthäus for those who prefer to cook. Kaserne Basel, the city's largest performing arts space, is just south of the neighborhood. It's easy to get around Matthäus and the rest of Basel using local bus and tram service.
