We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and would recommend our property to others. As a reminder, our policy REQUIRES guests to take insurance as our property is not your average home. The insurance policy covers up to $5,000 in potential damages, and we believe we were more than fair with the amount claimed for the damages incurred during your stay. In fact, we overlooked several smaller details as a gesture of goodwill. We had the option per VRBO's guest policy, to ask you to leave due to violations of house rules and property damage. We choose not to disturb your stay. Our home does not require repairs or renovations as you suggested by you as the reason for the insurance claim. Instead, we had to deal with the inconvenience of obtaining and replacing items damaged by your party. During your stay, I personally called you after noticing part of the pool PVC piping out on the basketball court. You mentioned that, "you were unaware of the situation and would speak to the children when you returned." Upon further inspection outside, I also found that part of the pool skimmer pole was bent, a lounger chair was broken, and a piece of a brand-new umbrella was found bent near the fire pit, among other damages. Regarding the weather, while there may have been storms in other parts of the country, there was no significant weather event in Cooperstown, New York, during your stay. We typically experience mild to moderate wind and rain conditions in this area during the summer. Suggesting that the weather was the cause of these damages doesn't align with the conditions we observed at any of our properties during your stay. The unfortunate reality is that the property was not treated with the care and attention we expect from our guests. Umbrellas were left up while not in use, children were unsupervised around the pool. (The children used the PVC pipe as a baseball bat against the trees and broke the end of it. This was observed by a neighbor.) Actions that we consider basic care when renting someone else’s home were overlooked. This is why a claim was made for damages. We understand that leaving a 1-star review may be your way of expressing dissatisfaction, but it seems to overlook the fact that there were NO issues with the property itself. Management answered ALL of your questions in a timely fashion prior to and during your stay. In other words, your stay was impeccable as was the management. Instead, the review focuses on damages that occurred due to a lack of care and supervision, which led to our claim. While your review may attempt to "warn others," it may, in fact, highlight to other hosts the importance of setting clear expectations with guests regarding the proper care of their properties.
