We had such a good stay at the villa! G&V were the most hospitable hosts and helped us navigate the bus system, made recommendations about things to do and see and were so kind and generous with little extras that made us feel so welcome! They went above and beyond! The space was lovely and cool even in the warmest part of the summer and had plenty of room to stretch out. The grounds were so beautiful, settled into the hills among olive and citrus groves, and we loved having coffee and evening drinks on the patio. The apartment was equipped everything we needed for a long term stay, and had solid Wifi connectivity for two of us to be able to teach synchronously over Zoom.
I would definitely recommend a car; the apartment is on a bus line, but the number of trips into neighboring (about 3k/2mi) Gazi are about 4 per day. It's walkable into Gazi and the beaches of Amoudara (5k/3mi) and a bus ride from there into Heraklion proper, but in the heat of the summer it's a loooong, dusty way back up the hill with few sidewalks from Gazi. We took advantage of being off the beaten path and enjoyed the lovely surroundings and people (especially the taverna) in the village of Kavrochori, just a five minute walk up the hill from the flat.
